New evidence: George Zimmerman applied to become a cop but was turned down[W242]

I wonder if Z was a member of that "the most complete fight gym in the world" (sounds pricey) while he and Shellie were collecting unemployment, his mom and dad were paying their rent and while he was stiffing his credit card companies.
Adding to my June 5th post:

Well, it looks like the latest document dump [17th discovery ::: 31 pages] shows he was turned down for that cop job...for Credit/ Collection issues. Heh.

We learned in March of 2012 about Z stiffing (stealing) money from his Credit Card companies...
"Zimmerman married Shellie Nicole Dean, a licensed cosmetologist, in late 2007. The next year, he resurfaced in court documents as a credit-card company pursued him for unpaid debts.

Capital One accused Zimmerman of failing to pay more than $1,000. He settled with the company for $2,135.82, records show, to cover his debts with interest, as well as attorney and court costs.

However, the credit-card company soon reported that Zimmerman wasn't making the payments he had agreed to.

Zimmerman's employer at the time, CarMax, agreed to garnish his wages. That arrangement was canceled in late 2008 because Zimmerman was no longer employed by CarMax."

So late 2008, Z skips out on money owed and now garnished by CarMax. Gets tossed out by Car Max.

Brings us to 2009. THAT is when the latest news of his rejection letter from the Virginia PD happened.

See that? He applied in 2009 to be a cop. In Virginia. 2009.

2010 Was when he joined joins Koppelli's Fight Gym, "for self defense, weight loss, and training for law enforcement career."

$105.00 a Month Gym Membership.

$1260.00 per year.

BD - OK, and were you working for many of those 5 years prior to nursing school?

Shellie Zimmerman - I was working for the first year.

BD - and your husband, Mr. Z, was also working during that entire time?

SZ - not the entire time.

BD - OK, how did you all support yourselves when you weren't working?

SZ - uhm when we were not working, we collected unemployment benefits.

I hope he didn't join when he and /or his wife was collecting unemployment.

That would look pretty bad. Not case-wise, just grifter-wize.

Then again, we know he's a grifter. Hell, 28 years old and can't even pay his rent!

O' - do you know where he lives?

Gladys Zimmerman - yes sir, as a matter of fact...we pay rent ...on the place... We ..

O'Mara -uh...They don't want to HEAR THAT, quite honestly!

What you are saying is meaningless **** from a legal standpoint that in no way effects Z's claim of self defense

Holy ****!

Just what do you think this has to do with anything?

Have you considered the realities of Sanford?

Trial to begin in Trayvon Martin case - latimes.com

The current police chief, Cecil E. Smith, is black and took over after his white predecessor, Bill Lee, was fired over the Martin case. Lee had been on the job just 10 months; he succeeded a white chief who was forced to resign after a police officer's son beat a black man in downtown Sanford. Police did not arrest the assailant, even though the beating was captured on video.

Francis Oliver, the curator of the Goldsboro Historical Museum, which documents the community's 20 years as a self-governing town, said such changes show the chipping away of a system that in the past might have swept Martin's death aside

Great article. Thanks.

What you are saying is meaningless **** from a legal standpoint that in no way effects Z's claim of self defense

Piggybacking on my previous post, I'll add this:

1. Serino: And you were able to overpower him as far as holding his wrist, you gained wrist…we call it wrist control…you gained wrist control on him basically, and you were able to basically liberate both hands…
Zimmerman: Yes, sir.

Add: Martial Arts /fight training skills.

Richard Hornsby, a pro-Zimmerman defense attorney/blogger puts forth an argument that GZ's martial arts training is admissible.

Although, when he wrote the argument, it was back in May, and it was in an effort to show how TM may have had street fighting skills, and explains relevancy:

Prior Incidents of Fighting

To be honest, I grappled (pun intended) with how the defense could legally introduce evidence that Trayvon Martin had previously engaged in semi-organized street fighting.

Since George Zimmerman was unaware of this behavior, it would be inadmissible to show his state of mind. Taylor v. State, 513 So. 2d 1371 (Fla. 2nd DCA 1987) (Evidence of victims’s prior acts inadmissible to show state of mind, because defendant was unaware of the acts he killed victim.)

However, part of Florida’s standard jury instruction 3.6(f), Justifiable Use of Deadly Force, instructs the jury that when they “consider the issue of self-defense, they may take into account the relative physical abilities and capacities of the defendant and the victim.”

...
Moreover, the Florida Supreme Court has indicated in dicta that specialized training (such as Martial Arts) is relevant evidence
notwithstanding its also evidence of bad character traits. Trease v. State, 768 So. 2d 1050 (Fla. 2000) (FN5. Evidence of proficiency in the martial arts and how to use a knife was relevant evidence against defendant in murder case.)

As there remains the hurdle to authenticate text messages from TM's phone as being from him, those being the only potential for TM noting any fighting behaivor - and the two videos O'Mara thought would be bombshellish, re: fighting, we find:

 • "Referring a fight." Not Trayvon in that video.
 • "when we present to you the video...being involved in taping one where two buddies of his are beating up a homeless guy." -O'Mara

Since we now know O'Mara lied about that video, and it was TM happening upon two bums fighting over a bike (where the recent exemplar of TM's voice can be heard), there is scant little in the way of TM having shown a propensity for fighting, and most importantly: had any skills in fighting or specialized training.

Sadly, for Mr. Hornsby, the case he was making where he shows the relevance of such, as it turns out - is now a rather sublime pro-prosecution argument.

You really like making irrelevant and pointless posts, don't you?

"Now, as Zimmerman prepares to go on trial on a charge of second-degree murder, a video has been released that the defense says could help authenticate the 911 call. But lawyers for Martin’s family say it doesn’t belong in court.

The video, which the defense says was extracted from Martin’s phone, shows two men fighting, apparently over a bicycle or an incident involving a bicycle. Zimmerman’s lawyers say Martin took the video, and that a voice on the recording is his. The person recording is not seen.

Under Florida evidence-sharing rules, prosecutors and the defense have had the clip for some time.
...

Because the video does not show what happened the night Martin was killed, Coffey said, “The question then becomes: What does it show?”

The video came to public attention after it was mischaracterized during a recent hearing, when defense attorney Mark O’Mara said the material depicted Martin’s friends beating up a homeless man.

The defense later issued an apology and clarified the nature of the recording. Vincent said that the video was released in part to further correct the record.

NBC News has not independently authenticated that the voice is Martin’s."

I'm content to let the readers be the judge of that.
:doh As a reader, I already judged that. :lamo

Exactly..

In fact all this seems to be about lately is character trashing.

Yes... the guy isn't the smartest and most successful person in the world...... he has dealt with failures and with those failures, hardships.....

Next?

Ben Crump, a lawyer for the Martin family, says that Martin’s own mother isn’t sure it’s his voice.

Don't that just beat all?
She identifies Zimmerman's screams as her sons, but can't identify her son's voice as his own.
That is hilarious.
I believe it should be obvious to everybody why.

That is very funny. She's certain it's her son screaming, but can't be certain of his normal speaking voice. Multiple reason she would want to take that position.

Do you want the whole of the evidence posted here over and over and over again?

Why not do some of your own research?
I have to agree. This story has a lot of information around it. A certin base level of knowledge has been generaly expected by all sides. People, please take advantage of a quick google on a claim you doubt or want to question before posting. If its something most people tracking this story feel is common knowledge, your chalanges for evidence will often go unanswered.

That makes the PD look bad
