George Zimmerman's defense reports $10K deficit

In an affidavit filed Friday, Zimmerman’s lead defense attorney Mark O’Mara lists his wage as $450 per hour.

Defense attorney Donald West, who is also representing Zimmerman, lists his hourly age as $350.

Meanwhile, we've learned Zimmerman's legal defense fund is running a $10,000 deficit.

According to the defense, their website has received more than $82,000 in donations since Jan. 1.

TOTAL RAISED BETWEEN JANUARY 1 AND MARCH 3, 2013: $53,611.11

EXPENSES FOR JANUARY 1 - MARCH 3, 2013: $43,670.58

Experts: $16,000
Household / Living Expenses: $11,734.66 (includes most March expenses)
Security: $500.00
Law Firm Support and Infrastructure: $8,716.92
Case Related Expenses: $5,879.31
Fund Management Fees: $645.94
Other Expenses: $193.75

The following is a breakdown of expenses since our last report on March 3:

Experts: $3,000
Household / Living Expenses: $3,103.16
Security: $1,304.95
Law Firm Support and Infrastructure: $3,187.93
Case Related Expenses: $5,879.31
Fund Management Fees: $182.11
Other Expenses: $2,257.50

There are notable increases in the Case Related Expenses category, which include fees for court recorders required during depositions, and in the Other Expenses category which include medical expenses, and GPS monitoring.

$15k for household/living expenses in four months?

$2k for medical expenses? Lipo / plastic surgery?

Triple security in one month?

Donate harder Zimmerman-supporters. George needs you.

Maybe GZ should tell the courts he can no longer afford a lawyer. Let the State (taxpayers) pick up the tab for both sides.

He will not get paid living expenses (see $15k in four months), and the other expenses ($2k medical), and security (just under $2k since January).

If still receiving donations, he will have to report it all to the state, and may still pay for his defense.

He is not paying for his lawyers. They are working pro-bono.

He can always quit taking donations, now can't he?

My point since some of you have made a crack about Zimmerman supporters should donate. I mearly pointed out he could turn it around and in the end the taxpayers would pay for both the prosecution and defense.

Yes he can. Why doesn't he?

Zimmerman supporters should donate. Obviously, they are not doing enough.

I live modestly but I support my ex-wife. With medical and dental costs, I spent about $5000 a month last year. So, thats not unreasonable.

I have no opinion on guilt or innocence in this case. I'm just addressing the OP.

You would have to ask him. If I answered it would be speculation.

Maybe the State should help out. Since his lawyers are working pro bono as you stated, it is saving the State the cost of a defense lawyer.

In order to get a court-appointed lawyer to represent you, you must generally:

1. Ask the court for a court-appointed lawyer and,
2. Provide details about your financial situation that show you are unable to hire a private defense attorney.

Zimmerman would have to petition the court and provide his finances. The court is not going to just...give it to him:lol:

The only problem for Zimmerman is the state will not pay for his:

1. Household / living expenses
2. Security
3. Law Firm Support and Infrastructure
4. Other expenses (medical and GPS)

George paid off two cars when he was in the clover.. so he cannot be declared indigent since he has assets of over $2k..

Were you living off of donations too?

No Sir. How is this different? The cost of living is the cost of living no matter the funding source.

I do accept donations though.

Best thing for GZ to do is to stop taking donations, file for bankrupcy (don't think he is has a job.), turn himself in to be put in jail, and let the State pay for his defense, medical care, and food/lodging. His family with bankrupcy and no income could ask for State assistance.

Seems only right, since the State can spend whatever they want in the prosecution, they might as well pay for the defense as well.

And in the end, if found innocent by the jury, sue the pants off the State and the TM family for wrongful prosecution. As one poster for TM has stated, its how civil law suits work. Its all about money, .

LOLOL.. The Martin family isn't prosecuting George... The State of Florida is prosecuting George for murder..

George will never get a dime from the Martins or the State.

LOL, I was talking civil suit not criminal. Don't think the State did that to the HOA, now did they. It was TM family and TM's family lawyer who has stated they plan to sue GZ at a later date.

and as your friend has stated "prove it".. Kinda hard to do so when the actions I stated have not taken place yet.
So prove GZ will never get a dime from the Martins or the State. Oh wait, it is pure speculation/opinion or your part at this stage of events.

on the other hand that may well be. Time will tell.

Zimmerman didn't suffer a wrongful death.. and the HOA wasn't tricked into endorsing an idiot like George. The HOA is only liable because they failed to contact their lawyer BEFORE they got tangled up with GZ and Neighborhood Watch.

You are prettu ignorant when it comes to the law.

No Sir. How is this different? The cost of living is the cost of living no matter the funding source.

I do accept donations though.

I really need to explain the difference?

You had a steady income last year to support your monthly expenses, right? You could afford to keep expenses stable throughout the year?

George Zimmerman does not. Donations are not infinite, nor a steady income to support his cost of living, hence the $10k deficit.

Updates

Update March 7: (most of the March fixed expenses, including George’s living expenses, are accounted for in this breakdown)
Household / Living Expenses: $11,734.66 (includes most March expenses)
Other Expenses: $2,257.50

Update April 11: Household / Living Expenses: $3,103.16
Other Expenses: $193.75

One does not increase expenses when donations decrease. This would be like if you were terminated or received a huge pay cut at your job, but kept your monthly expenses the same or increased them.

Yes the cost of living is the cost of living. The funding source does matter if one does not want to run...at a deficit:lol:

Did I say anything about GZ suing for wrongfull death. I gave a hypotheical situation. IF THE JURY FINDS GZ INNOCENT, then he would have a case to pursue against TM's family and the State for wrongfull prosecution.

What part of that hypothetical situation do you not understand?

(I would do a personal attack, but your not worth the risk for points. I don't recall being disrespectful to you in implying your "ignorant" on something, like you implied I am. When you have nothing to back up, trying to degrade someone must be the way you like to proceed.)

At this point, your not worth anymore responses.

Look, I understand what you are saying (I think). You think it's wrong for them to have high expenses since they are living from the gifts of others. All I'm saying is that it costs a lot to live and it isn't easy to control. Your expenses are not always fixed. I spent $6500 at my dentist last year. Sure, I could have let my mouth rot but I didn't. Maybe they had root canal? Might they have purchased Caviar? I don't know.

By American standards a $10K deficit is almost amusing.

I notice you ignored my donation request.

They have probable cause.

George won't be found "innocent"... He might be found not guilty.

Look up malicious prosecution or unlawful prosecution.

The HOA isn't liable at all.
It just costs more to defend than settle.
So they settled.
It doesn't get any simpler or clearer than that.
So stop pretending like you know that which you don't, because every time you do, your ignorance shines through.

You might go and read the opinions of any number of Florida condo association lawyers..

It does not matter the "opinions" of some lawyers. In the end what counts is the out of court settlement involving the HOA and TM's family. As another poster stated it was estimated to cost less to settle out of court than to proceed to the civil trial. It is also known that the HOA was not held responsible or found liable in the courts settlement document.

The complaintents civil case lawyers like to settle out of court. Easy payday for them compared to a possible long drawn out trial, appeals, and the chance of little to no compensation. It happens all the time in the US.

There would have been no settlement from the HOA if they had NOT endorsed George a NW and knowingly or unknowingly let him carry a gun.

iLOL
Their opinions hold no sway. Or did you not know that?
