Officer accused of having Trayvon Martin targets

Police sergeant fired for Trayvon Martin shooting targets | www.wftv.com

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Officials with Port Canaveral said a police sergeant has been fired after he brought Trayvon Martin shooting targets to a firearms training session.
Sergeant Ron King was terminated from the police department on Friday, according to officials.
Port officials said King brought two shooting targets which had an images resembling Trayvon Martin on them to a firearms training session on April 4.
King was supervising the training session and asked if anyone wanted to use them. Officials will not say if the targets were actually used.
"Whether his act was hatred or stupidity, none is tolerable," said John Walsh, CEO of Port Canaveral.

I expect nothing less from Zimmerman-supporters...and from police officers in general. Are there cases like this from the other side of the fence? Trayvon Martin supporters in the police department doing/saying dumb **** like this?

I see no shooting targets of Christopher Dorner, Adam Lanza, James Holmes, etc.

Google

Found a Trayvon Martin target next to a Hitler one. What does this mean...

Both of your articles make reference to the targets "resembling Trayvon Martin."

What exactly would that resemblance be.

Just for the reference.

This guy just looks like a tool, whats with the shemagh (the scarf) he's wearing, he's a cop working in Florida not some Special Forces dude walking around an Afghan village. And a G-36, that's an expensive gun too.

Anyway he probably thought it would be funny and made a stupid mistake.

That's the trayvon martin shooting target? Are you kidding me.

First off, that's a jacket with a hood. That's it. It's nothing else. It doesn't mean anything. Unless there is a shooting target out there with Trayvon martins' face, then your arguments are invalid. Produce such a picture and an article showing us that indeed, there are such targets in lawful institutions, and then you have an argument for the "I expect nothing less from Zimmerman-supporters...and from police officers in general" attitude. If not, you're in the wrong and all people who feed of this story are zealous fanatics.

I see. So it may or may not relate to this article. You have no idea...

Acccording to the following article it was the target.
The Trayvon target, which features a bull's eye over his heart, a package of Skittles in his pocket and a beverage can in his right hand, is sold online.

This guy was a moron. The article states other officers refused to use the target. Good job of weeding out morons out of the force.

this has been a past issue if i remember correctly.

If Trayvon would have been spending his nights watching Comedy Central like most liberals do he would have learned wearing a hoodie can be dangerous to your health. Instead Trayvon was a criminal. Have you actually seen the photos of the 17 year old Trayvon before they were scrubbed from the internet ? I have.

If Zimmerman wouldn't have taken care of the Trayvon problem in our society, Tayvon would have just been another victim of black on black murder or sitting in jail waiting for trial for committing some felony.

Kenny McCormick was killed over a hundred times on South Park because he wore a hoodie.

Nice to know that your dress sense is determined by cartoon characters.

Anybody want to bet he gets his job back?

An unidentified entrepreneur admits he is trying to profit off Trayvon Martin’s death by selling gun range targets featuring Martin who’s death has sparked a nationwide controversy.

Although Martin’s face does not appear on the paper targets, they feature a hoodie with crosshairs aimed at the chest. A bag of Skittles is tucked in the pocket and a hand is holding a can resembling iced tea.

Martin purchased both items minutes before he had a confrontation with George Zimmerman and was shot and killed in February, according to police.

The guy who created them advertised them as Trayvon Martin shooting targets. They sold out in two days. We now know this Sgt. may have been one of the buyers:lol:

Come on, it's quite clear what the message is. We should all be outraged -- that people are ignorant enough to manufacture like this and that a LEO was ignorant enough to buy them. What.A.Jerk.

To the poster who thinks he may get his job back: This is what drives me NUTS about unions. They'll no doubt file a grievance on his behalf. Who knows the outcome?

If it weren't the skittles, I'd say this was overblown.

We in the sport shooting community refer to such, the guys in black w/ tac vests all geared up... for the gun store, as "mall ninjas."

Well in this case, if he gets his job back with union support. They will have done the right thing.

You are sick and blind if you cannot tell that target is meant to resemble trayvon martin.
It's absolutely disgusting that people choose to buy targets that symbollically represent a teenager.

Whoa clam down guy. I just posted that for everyone's reference, I'm not arguing for or against Zimmerman or Martin.

Especially if they were sold as...wait for it...."Pack Trayvon Martin Shooting Targets".

About the 10 second mark you can see "Pack Trayvon..." then the camera scrolls down to the picture.

Ok, well, again, to me they it doesn't look like a trayvon martin shooting target. I can very well be: a hooded shooting target. And just that. But I am making a chain reply, so the responses are valid for all, especially the last one.

No, it's not obvious to me from the picture that the picture is meant to resemble trayvon martin. I can very well pass on as any hooded shooting target.

In other words, if I were to walk down the street and somebody would say: Hey, check out this shooting target I made. Does it look like something in particular?
I would only say: Nope.

Whoa clam down guy. I just posted that for everyone's reference, I'm not arguing for or against Zimmerman or Martin.

ok. Well, I wasn't aiming at you per se. It's a general opinion.

Ok. Well this is new information for me. If indeed, the man who advertised them did so by specifically calling them: Trayvon Martin shooting targets; then fine. I cede the point that the man who made them was probably a malicious asshole who had a stroke of business genius on how to make profit.

Now, for the record, as I have said, this entire case is stupid and it should never have gotten national media attention, let alone captivate the keen interest of the public. It is a common crime, no different than any other of the 12k murders that are done for all sorts of reasons.

But since it has, there have been countless people taking advantage from it. Either financially, politically, PR-wise, anything. People who wanted to be famous and whatever. Even the family of the victim has profitted from it with 1mil green ones. The media got to fill its air time with BS and this kids' death was a massive benefit for all who knew how to benefit from it, except of course, zimmerman and needless to say, the victim... he's dead...

So is this outrageous? Yes. Was the police (as an institution or just that individual, that sergeant) in the wrong to acquire them? hell yes. Is it to be amazed by... no. Crazy has been following this case like a fat man follows the smell of burgers.

What????? OMFG!!!!! How can I be in love with you, yet we think so differently???
Your love for me comes from knowing deep down that I am right! ;)
This isn't an incident anybody should be fired over.
