Police sergeant fired for Trayvon Martin shooting targets

Your love for me comes from knowing deep down that I am right! :2razz:
This isn't an incident anybody should be fired over.

I feel like the Soup Nazi.

No Like for you!!! ;)

It isn't that I don't think it is inappropriate, disrespectful, and a mockery as I do.
I just do not think a person should lose their job over it.

Just for the reference.

This guy just looks like a tool, whats with the shemagh (the scarf) he's wearing, he's a cop working in Florida not some Special Forces dude walking around an Afghan village. And a G-36, that's an expensive gun too.

Anyway he probably thought it would be funny and made a stupid mistake.

Lol.

1) The target is despicable. I do need proof that this is the actual target. I just hope this isn't the case of the "coffin targets" again. You know? Conventional targets that have been used for 20 or years that were called "coffin targets" after Newtown.

2) Do you know for a fact that is a G36? Could be a UMP45. But at any rate...what does his preference of weapon have to do with him being a tool? A G36 is a great gun. It's his money.

3) I will give you the scarf. That is toolish. I do see a lot of guys wearing those now though...lots of vets. The new handkerchief as it were. What is the guys background? If he was special forces or infantry id give it to him (like pirate men are allowed to wear earrings...but that is the line).

geeez, too many overreactions going around this country.... holy cow, folks need to get a grip on their emotions.

the dude should never have been fired over shooting at a target depicting....anyone.....
it's a paper target for christs sake..... tasteless?, sure.... worth firing him over? hell no.

If he had worked at Safeway's in the produce section then yes he should be able to keep his job.

But he is a police officer on duty where it is not comedy central. The shooting range is not a place for theatrics.

By his picture he looks to me like a 5'6" Barney Fife on Red Bull.

Neither being a reason that justifies firing.

could be mere happenstance ...

Yes, that is what I argued too and indeed, it seems the logical conclusion based just upon the picture and the news bulletin. But apparently the people who advertised the sale of this shooting target specifically called it: Trayvon Martin shooting target; or something like that. But the Trayvon Martin word was mentioned in the advertisement for this item. There was a link provided in a prior comment to this.

I'm being sarcastic. Happenstance would be the sole use of a hoodie, not a combination of three very random things associated with the Treyvon case (arizona Ice tea, skittles and a hoodie

Ok?
Who is the second one of?
I ask because it does not look like the Trayvon Martin that is the subject of this sub-forum.

Never-mind. The second person is Frank Ocean.

Why would Frank Ocean try to hide his identity ?

Hoodies in the criminal world have a purpose.

If liberals label rifles as assault weapons by their cosmetic looks, why don't liberals label everyone who wears a hoodie a criminal ?

I didn't think he was. Why do you think he was?

I agree. Wearing a hoody in a certain way can facilitate hiding your identity.

Sometimes not so much.

Hypocrisy?

I expect nothing less from Zimmerman-supporters...and from police officers in general. Are there cases like this from the other side of the fence? Trayvon Martin supporters in the police department doing/saying dumb **** like this?

I see no shooting targets of Christopher Dorner, Adam Lanza, James Holmes, etc.

Google

Found a Trayvon Martin target next to a Hitler one. What does this mean...

What's the violation?....It *resembles*?

What is the violation indeed. I am sure we all want to know, as a matter of curiosity. The Sgt. has seven days to contest the firing. Maybe when he does, more information will come to light.

What resembles what now?

Look, it was a stupid thing to do, especially for an officer in Florida where the case is being adjudicated and the public is still split on the case. If he or his department is involved at all in the case, it was an especially stupid move.

Whether or not it was a firing offence, dunno, that up to his department and his contract. But this sort of thing makes it harder for every patrol officer in that area.

Gad this is crappy.. but you know how Florida is.

Btw, this was done to Zimmerman too, just not by public officials.

I'm all about having a meme for a target, it's just emotional venting....but to bring something like that to an official event? No. That was a dumb move.

Is the image that you posted, the actual target that was mentioned in the article?
These targets appeared shortly after the shooting. Iirc we had a few threads on how the creator of the first target was sold out and had a pile of back-orders. This was the same target I saw in those threads, and on e-bay.
