Civil rights leaders join New York stop-and-frisk rally | 7online.com

Good to see Trayvon Martin's family will be there to lend a silent voice against the possibly unConstitutional and clearly inept & inefficient Stop & Frisk program.

Trayvon Martin was a victim of injustice in Florida and now his family shall be marching for justice in New York City.

More power to them.

NEW YORK -- Some big names in American civil rights joined the Rev. Al Sharpton for a Harlem rally protesting a police tactic that has led to hundreds of thousands of innocent people being stopped and searched by officers.

Sharpton led the gathering at his New York City headquarters Saturday, a day ahead of a planned Father's Day march to protest the NYPD's "stop-and-frisk" program.

Speakers included the father of Trayvon Martin, the unarmed teenager fatally shot in Florida by a neighborhood watch volunteer.

NAACP President Benjamin Jealous and New York Civil Liberties Union Executive Director Donna Lieberman also attended.

Critics say the NYPD's practice of stopping, questioning and searching people deemed suspicious is humiliating thousands of law-abiding blacks and Hispanics.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the program keeps guns off the streets.

(Has it kept guns off the streets?)

....(Has it kept guns off the streets?)

yes, thousands of illegal guns.

and the cost? hundreds of thousands of mostly innocent black and Hispanic people being stopped, questioned, and searched for NO good reason.

I get it... I would HATE to be stopped and frisked..

What are the alternatives?

This is one of those double edged swords that Leftists sadly find themselves faced with, because of their crazy ass politics.

On the one hand, they want guns out of the hands of American citizens; on the other hand, they don't want people frisked and searched.

It has to suck being a Liberal, sometimes. :rofl

Oh, I dunno...maybe we could stop violating peoples' constitutional rights, just because they're excercising their constitutional rights. Whatcha think?

Oh you think unregistered and illegal guns are a partisan issue.

Wow - NYC citizens are actually protesting something that NYCPD or GOV is doing.

That's astonishing . . . they were beginning to look like they were asleep or something.

Or, we could just stick with the Constitution and stop trying to make guns illegal? I know, it sounds crazy, following that damned ol' Constitution, but I'm just throwing thoughts out there for people to chew on.

Yeah! Then, when a black person gets shot, they're going to be pissin'-n-moanin' about why no one is doing anything. :rofl

People think that firearms are the only means of harming others.

Take one avenue away and someone who's enraged or looking for vengance will just find another - and another.

There's a reason why pointed knives were made illegal in several countries. . .

Brutal truth: people can be mean and hurt other people on purpose - because they wanted to. People just don't want to accept that, I guess.

well there ya go, you should be happy with Stop and frisk then... it's common sense gun control.

harrassing 600,000 people a year (82% completely innocent) in order to get 500 guns off the street...is HORRIBLE policing.

last ditch effort to copensate for being one of the ****tiest places to live.

that's what happens when your citizens are neglected for decades.

NYC is a very cool place to live.

Yep...... NY is great.

Maybe they should try to reframe this frisking business in some way that people are willing to be frisked. I don't really know how, but a top flight marketing firm would know.

There are benefits to everyone to get guns off the street.. whether they are black or white.

Ah ... maybe I am being a Pollyanna.. My driver says that criminals will always have guns.

If you like that sort of living, sure.

I went outside this morning before my husband went to work - 5:30 am. What did I hear? Absolutely nothing - outside = golden, beautiful natural silence.

I agree...

lots of horrible practices , concerning gun control, are done in the name of "common sense gun control'... lots of you ideas are just as horrible as stop and frisk, and every bit as arbitrary.

I too oppose stop and frisk... but not for the convenient reason of perceived racism/racial bias...I don't care one bit about the racial element of the policy.
I don't care if it affect 100% minorities, 50% minority and 50% white.. or whatever numerical division you can concoct.... the simple fact that it affects people with rights is why I oppose it... identity politics does not enter into my thinking on the matter.

I started clearing brush this morning at 4:30.... know what i heard?... a whole world of wildlife that would not shut the **** up no matter how much I told them to.

12 minutes, 27 seconds...and counting...

huh?.. ya lost me
15 minute of fame clock for the Martin family. They only have a few more good minutes left to exploit the 'tragedy'.
