my speculation is he was pissed that his movements were being monitored
he had only that day been suspended for the third time
from his second high school
there are indications he may have been headed down the wrong path
and wanted no interference from a concerned citizen protecting his community


what's your speculation for the reason he assaulted zimmerman?

Wrong path? Trayvon was taking the most direct route back to the house where he was staying.

GZ was a stranger who stalked him and failed to identify himself as NW.

You are no brighter than GZ.... assuming that a boy walking and talking on the phone is a criminal.

Why did he punch Z?

GZ said.. What are you doing here and reached for his cellphone (or his gun) and travon hit him .. knocking him down.

What's interesting is that this gun is very thin and only weighs 18 ounces fully loaded.

I wonder what the police dispatcher would have told Martin if he had bothered to call the police. Think they would have told him to pursue a fistfight with Zimmerman? BTW, here's article about Zimmerman's injuries.

Why would they have to? Do we now live in a country where we are free to assault someone, just because we don't like the way they look?

The hypocrisy is pooling up fast, under the argument that Martin was defending himself and that he had the right to do so.

Yes - if I think someone's following me with the purpose of doing harm to me - yeah - they have to explain theirself and defend theirself.

Why wouldn't they? If I was tailing behind you *to the point* of making you paranoid I wouldn't expect anything less from you.

So - don't follow right behind me, watch me while I'm walking and leer at me for an extended period of time. . .Problem solved.

There are too many different possible scenarios. Perhaps Trayvon was pissed someone was following him. Or perhaps Trayvon feared for his life when Zimmerman pulled a gun, causing him to fight back or to struggle for the weapon. I know if a strange guy was following me at night and then pulled a gun on me, and I thought I could take him, I might decide to fight for the gun. I am trying to envision a scene in which he doesn't draw his weapon until his head is being smashed into the concrete and it just seems like that would be a tough thing to do. The guy is sitting on you and slamming your head into the concrete and you are still able to draw your weapon? It might be possible. I think it is more likely the weapon was already drawn.

But it is just speculation. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

You might want to be careful with an attitude like that. You could end up in jail, or getting seriously hurt, or worse.

Sure, look what happened to Trayvon Martin for instance. Wasn't careful about his attitude with somebody following him, now dead.

Just as a note with further information not mentioned so far in this thread. The nose injury was described as a closed fracture (meaning the skin was not broken) and two lacerations on the back of his head, one of them nearly an inch long, the other about a quarter-inch long along with the black eyes and swelling.

Zimmerman also declined hospitalization the night of the shooting, and then declined the advice of his doctor to make a follow-up appointment.

The report also said Zimmerman had been prescribed Adderall and Temazepam medications.

by 'wrong path' i was referring to martin getting into repeated trouble at school
and it would not be a reach to see that someone who cannot comport himself within the rules at school may have a similar inclination to defy the rules when outside the school

monitoring one's activities after alerting the police to their suspicious activity does not seem, to me, to be the same thing as stalking

i find no instance of harassment, aggressiveness or threatening behavior by zimmerman prior to his being assaulted by martin. that allows me to conclude that there was no 'stalking'

I have the right to determine if I'm in danger or not - don't I? I mean seriously - don't you?

I'm not even equating this to the Zimmerman case. I as an individual have the right to asses the situation I'm in and figure out if someone near me intends to do me harm - everyone does.

assessing your security and assaulting another in a preemptive manner to preclude an attack you are uncertain would result are two very different things
