he attorneys for George Zimmerman, the Florida community watch volunteer who fatally shot unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, said Tuesday they have lost touch with their client and are withdrawing from the case.Craig Sonner and Hal Uhrig said at a news conference outside the Seminole County Courthhouse in Sanford, Fla., that they heard that Zimmerman on Tuesday had contacted a special prosecutor who will decide whether or not to press charges against him, against their advice.

They said they have not talked to Zimmerman, whose location is not known, in person in at least two days but in the past had spoken with him over the phone. “We can’t represent him unless he comes forward and asks us,” Uhrig said.

"We have a pretty good idea where he (Zimmerman) is," Uhrig said, but added that Zimmerman is not answering the phone.
The attorneys said they still believe in Zimmerman's story that he was attacked by Martin and fired in self-defense.
The attorneys also expressed concern about Zimmerman's "emotional and physical safety" and said they have reservations about awebsite Zimmerman set up to solicit money for help in his defense.

Zimmerman's broke. No surprise there. They, or someone else, will likely step forward when/if charges are pressed and the publicity to the attorneys compensates them for their lack of compensation.

Edit: I can also understand Zimmerman contacting the special prosecutor with a plea to **** or get off the pot.

Probably. Zimmerman could find pro bono lawyers I'm sure with the high level of profile this case has garnered. He's set up a website to accept money for "defense funding." I think he may be trying to cash in on this whole thing and his lawyers didn't like that. Just a guess though.

Well, if he's trying to cash in, he's going to be disappointed. The counter at the bottom of the page says 122 -- and 3 of those are mine. I have to admit that I thought about donating until the first poster, and others, pointed out it could be fake. Might be.

I guess this is a time when you're thankful for family. Surely he's hiding out with one of them, I know I could find a place to hide with family if I were in this situation. Hope he can, too. Poor wife and kids, though. What a mess.

That could be a good guess. This is pretty stunning though. I wonder who will come forward to defend him and if his arguments will remain the same. One of his lawyers said that he had a broken nose...

His lawyers said it was his site, so it most likely is...

Another cited the "Shaken Baby Syndrome" for possible or potential brain damage to Zimmerman. I've no idea what angle new lawyers will bring or if they will try to run with the same material.

Whatever his motivation it isn't helping him to appear irresponsible. The web site, calling Hannity, calling the state attorney, not meeting with his attorneys in person and not answering their calls for two days is not the message he wants to send to the world.

Gun enthusiasts also set up a site for him. The sad fact is, he is never going to be the illustration of a the regular guy whose life was saved thanks to a gun.

Very true. Cordoning yourself off from those working their ass off to help you isn't going to help you. Weird.

I thought that claim was absolutely reeeeedickalus. "Shaken Baby Syndrome." Give me a break. Come to think of it, that may be why he's no longer in touch with them.

Problem is they've never met him. It's tough to relay the extent of his wounds if they've never seen him.

He called Hannity? Was he on the show and did he give an interview? I haven't been paying attention to the story for very long... but I agree with what you're saying. Not talking to his attorneys does make him look really irresponsible. I wonder if he asked them for advise about his donation site. Any attorney would get tried of their client not talking to them for them days, especially in a case like this.

I just logged into the site and the counter says 19.....right now.

He is most likely thinking he is cooperating.
A very bad move on his part.

You are introducing hyperbole and spin where none is needed. Shaken Baby was brought up as a way to explain the severity of the situation George was in, not as a defense.

Did his lawyers come up with it?

I'm thinking that if he doesn't front some pics of his injuries from the assault he says happened, he is going to lose that ground in a trial because of the lack of evidence of an assault happening. I mean when there is a battery case of a woman by a spouse, they immediately take pics and document the wounds. That is pretty much what you do. If he doesn't have that... His lawyers have an uphill battle I'd think.

I refreshed and it says 00000001 now....hahahaha. no idea why this amuses me.

Maybe the counter is broken or he is messing with it on purpose

That's what I remember reading. Let me see if I can find a link.

A newly hired defense lawyer for George Zimmerman suggested his client may have suffered injuries similar to Shaken Baby Syndrome following an alleged attack by Trayvon Martin.

“One of the points people have said, the force [used against Martin] was too much, even if he broke his nose and slammed his head into the ground,” attorney Hal Uhrig said during an appearance on “CBS This Morning.”

“Many people remember the case of Liam Neeson’s wife — fell on a little ski slope, hit her head one time on the ground, and died. We’re familiar with the shaken baby syndrome: You shake a baby the brain shakes around inside the skull, you can die.”

I am wondering why the police wouldn't have take photos or something too.... some witnesses coming forward about his wounds would help and that's all he's left with now

I suspect the attorneys did not want to represent him as a client for reasons that would damage them if they continued. And that cannot be good for Zimmerman.

We have no reason to believe they didn't take pictures.

There's the video of him in the police station. That enhanced video is pretty compelling.

Doesnt work that way. Prosecution has to prove he wasnt assaulted. His word and the police reports are documented.
