Nope. Please tell me in what society that practiced polygamy, when men did not dominate that society.
“And I have no doubt that every new example will succeed, as every past one has done, in shewing that religion & Govt will both exist in greater purity, the less they are mixed together.”

Sponsor says bill would help otherwise law-abiding polygamists gain access to critical services, but critics say polygamy is harmful

The Utah state senate voted unanimously on Tuesday to effectively decriminalize polygamy among consenting adults, reducing penalties for a practice with deep religious roots in the predominantly Mormon state.

The bill, which would treat the offense of plural marriage as a simple infraction on par with a parking ticket, now moves to the Utah house of representatives, where it is likely to face greater resistance.

This is odd - Utah was only allowed to join the United States after it abolished polygamy. See Utah's very interesting path to statehood - National Constitution Center

'Most significant was lawmakers' and others' hostility toward the church's practice of polygamy, which the Republican Party had denounced as one of the “twin relics of barbarism” along with slavery. (The church opposed slavery.)

Polygamy was forbidden by a series of federal laws. In addition, a Supreme Court decision in 1879, Reynolds v. U.S., ruled against a Mormon husband who called plural marriage his religious duty as protected by the First Amendment. Chief Justice Morrison R. Waite wrote:

“Can a man excuse his practices…because of his religious belief? To permit this would be to make the professed doctrines of religious belief superior to the law of the land.”

We have to distinguish between legally recognized polygamist marriage and allowing people to be involved in their own common-law polygamist marriages. This bill would only make the latter of these cases less illegal and just fine people who claim to be in polygamist marriages. I don't see why the government should arrest you if you choose to call yourself married to several women. Consenting adults should be able to (common-law) marry who they wish.

Yes, it is about a man marrying several women, not a woman marrying several men. Too bad there aren't 10 females born for every male so this could work, huh?
How do you like being under government ordered house arrest for the crime of existing?

You blame it on polygamy instead of the culture of male dominance.

And yet they want to put a woman into jail because her stepchildren saw her breasts. What a strange state.

You blame it on polygamy instead of male dominance. Most of the West is not known for polygamist practices.

Why aren't "conservatives" applauding this move?

    1) A state exercising its rights as a state
    2) Less government intervention in private lives

Those are win-win aspects of the conservative ideology.
    Aren't they?

    What's the problem?

This opens up a dozen cans of worms. Where was the quote when business owners were citing vague religious belief to refuse service to a same sex couples.

Now if this passes will the tRump administration treat this like sanctuary cities and with hold funding (much of the 'services' the polygamy families desire are federally funded and regulated). Embrace religious freedom and strike down all the laws outlawing polygamy. Turn a semi blind eye like legalized pot- but not allow federal backed institutions to participate- banks and the like.

    this will be interesting...

When a woman enters into a polygamous marriage, she is still single. When she gives birth, being unmarried, she gets to receive welfare benefits from the state. She and the child's father get to enjoy the benefits provided by the state. Some communities that encourage polygamy also encourage these women to take advantage of state welfare benefits. They call it "bleeding the beast."

    You cool with that?

I don't believe in welfare, so I'm not cool with that.
