Mass shooting in Seattle leaves one dead and seven injured

Mental illness has been shown to not even be a predicting factor in most cases.

Domestic violence towards women seems to be the biggest factor of most mass shooters. Most mass shooters are not insane. Most are emotionally unstable, insecure, angry, jealous men.

If we actually enforced the laws we have on the books and prevented perpetrators of domestic violence from obtaining firearms...most importantly arresting and prosecuting those men who tried to buy firearms after having been barred from legally owning them with the same force and severity that we would prosecute someone for engaging in attempted murder, I think we would see an incredible drop-off in mass shootings in our country.

If ever there was a crime that should carry the harshest mandatory minimum sentence, it should be for the attempted purchase or attempt to obtain a firearm when one has a domestic violence conviction on his record. Some wife beater attempting to buy an Ruger Mini or AR-15 should get 20 years.

“Most are emotionally unstable, insecure, angry, jealous men” This right here is really good. I think i could agree with this.

It's not a gun control issue. It's not a mental illness issue. It's not a 'demographics' issue. It's a culture of violence issue and can't be legislated into submission.
In other words, fuggedaboutit. Just react as best as you can. You can't hurry evolution.

Laws are not a deterrence. Laws are a means of justice.

Way too simplistic and a fallacy used to justify not enforcing or creating new laws.

Laws are a deterrence. Many who parrot your reasoning look at the end result laws and claim not deterrence. Many debate capital punishment doesn't stop murder- and that has strong evidence to support it.

However enforcing the laws I mentioned does limit criminal activity- the realistic result in any legal system. I see two big roadblocks to limiting firearm violence. First hamstringing the ATF making FFL holders almost immune to criminal charges. Second is allowing burglars almost limitless access to firearms unsecured in homes across America.

Bumpersticker NRA/ILA slogans are not helpful here... :peace

Poor Seattle.

It used to be such a nice, quiet, and peaceful place back in the 1950s.

Yes, there were some negative things about the 1950s (when I was a teenager), but crime was not a topic that concerned people.

So many people nowadays are out of control.

Some people call that "progress."

I do not.

Talk about a claim that's impossible to discuss rationally. For one thing, it's only your opinion that your gated community in Virginia is more desirable than Seattle or San Francisco. And please no anecdotes about individuals who have told you they moved to Virginia because of the liberalism on the wesr coast. Seattle and San Francisco are full of people who moved there from elsewhere in the USA. I worked in the Port of Tacoma and my partner was from Texas. He had gone there in the military and loved it so much he moved there after his enlistment.
Do you think liberalism only works outside the USA? That makes no sense at all.

No, I think liberalism has made our country better, as has conservatism. It's just a matter of how and how much. And none of our California refugees cite "liberalism" as the reason for their moves. They talk about high taxes, traffic and filthy streets.

Not in this specific case. They had 67 convictions between them. The justice system, our system of laws...deterred nothing. Over and over for years, it deterred nothing.

Because laws stop criminals? They don't and that's not the purpose of law. The purpose of law is the ability to seek justice.

The purpose of gun laws is to SAVE LIVES not stop criminals. Not that you care about that.

 The purpose has always been to reduce crime. We're a country of laws, and the protection of liberty.

Well, American is now on the case and it seems he has a solution to the problem.

Yes yes, don't bring up something that points out the hypocrisy of the Left.
