Mass shooting in Seattle leaves one dead and seven injured | US news | The Guardian

Police searching for suspect
Attack marks third shooting in the area in two days

Eight people were shot in Seattle on Wednesday, authorities said, and one of them died from their injuries.

The Seattle fire chief, Harold Scoggins, said authorities began receiving calls at about 5pm warning of multiple gunshot victims. One person was found dead in a heavily trafficked area of downtown and five others were taken to a Seattle hospital, he said.

Gun laws? We don't need no stinkin' gun laws!

Because laws stop criminals? They don't and that's not the purpose of law. The purpose of law is the ability to seek justice.

Laws are like locks, mostly for honest folk, imo.

Washington state should pass a very harsh law outlawing gunning people down. I'm surprised they haven't allready done so.

BTW, why are the police looking for him? They can't retroactively outlaw murder or any other activity. Criminal laws can not be retroactive.

One new thread for every shooting, right? Seems this should be on the gun control forum since that the topic of the 1 sentence OPer's comment.

Now we get to have a couple of pages of the same 2 dozen posters posting exactly what they have 101 times before. But ok, have at it.

What law would have stopped this, or what law are you advocating? Whining won't solve problems.

Why don't you enforce the existing gun laws first before making new ones.

Another day, another mass shooting...

“I was on the first set of escalators,” Cook said. “There were a lot of gunshots that started going off, maybe 10 or 11. It was just rapid fire.”

That would be the worst feeling....being on an escalator forcing you into the direction of gunfire

Seattle's Liberal Reckoning
Robert Merry, American Conservative

Ohferchristsake. Liberalism causes violent crime. What a mindless, moronic concept.
It rains a lot in Seattle. Why doesn't rain cause violent crime? Seattle is on Puget Sound. Why doesn't salt water cause violent crime? Seattle is close to Canada. Why doesn't Canada cause violent crime? Hey, that's it! Canada has a Liberal government! Canada must be a very violent place!

Rain, the ocean and Canada are not about black people and immigrants. You're missing the whole point.

Like that idiotic statement that liberalism is to blame? Like that?

Black people and immigrants? Ah, thanks. I live on an island in a rain forest in Canada and I thought I might be obliged to sucker-punch an old lady or something.
We do have immigrants here, mostly Americans, but they're all white so I guess we'll be safe.

Brown people. Blog spam. Battlestar Galactica.

We should have much stiffer laws for gun crimes and very stiff for assaults, other than self defense, involving guns. We can lesson the non-violent offender cases and penalties but violent crime should carry stiff but reasonable penalties. Gun laws will not remove the guns. Haven't you read the bumper sticker? When they outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns.

A meme from The Office modified for context. Basically, the blog spam is nonsense deplorable crap.

Gotcha.
For some reason I liked that show. A once-a-week, half-hour cringefest.

Ummm yes they do, they don't stop EVERYTHING is far more accurate.

The problem has been a failure to have a COMBINED law enforcement initiative. Remember the era of Billy the Kidd, or Bonnie and Clyde? Both could escape LE by simply leaving the jurisdiction. No federal laws or agency to allow pursuit across boundaries. Local law enforcement was simply no match for some gangs, not all criminals got away, but there were a few more ruthless gangs who could come and go without local law enforcement stopping them.

It would be a good start to revitalize the ATF. Stopping a murderer with a law isn't the point. Stopping the FFL from multiple sales to gun runners, the runners from selling to local gangs, local gangs from having firearms to sell to anyone wanting to commit a murder- now that IS possible. How about enforcing new laws requiring home owners to PROPERLY secure firearms when not in the house/ vehicle.

Not all murders can be stopped, but that shouldn't stop us from limiting the number possible.... :peace

Laws are not a deterrence. Laws are a means of justice.
