San Diego, too?
San Diego, too?
I thought this was happening up north in Sonoma.
But my God, it looks bad. Really bad.
It's all over! We've had a couple of fires near San Diego. Riverside, Santa Clarita, San Bernardino.San Diego, too?

San Diego county was and remains under the same weather watch/warning as the rest of the state.
It's been a daunting last few days for us.
70 mph gusts in my backyard and look what is ahead... Santa Ana winds fade, but they'''ll return on Sunday and Wednesday - The San Diego Union-Tribune
Yeah, it was those 80MPH winds that got my attention. Fires + 70-80MPH winds? That can't be good ...It's all over! We've had a couple of fires near San Diego. Riverside, Santa Clarita, San Bernardino.

Hubby and I, being big Notre Dame fans, and having no TV today, traveled to our nearest watering hole to watch the game.
Cant tell you how hard it was to be displaced from the comfort of our own home and to witness our Irish lose to MI. Damn.
Tomorrow, another day living in CA in the fall... we will worry about those winds.

We have at least two major fires burning right now in our state, and barely any containment; #KincadeFire #GettyFire
I'm worried about the two fires mentioned above, and of course, any other fires that should happen due to an impending, dooming, weather forecast.
Starting late tonight and up until Halloween, Thursday, early evening, it's critical for our state. Prayers for all to stay out of harm's way, and especially our brave fire fighters, police, who are on the line just doing their jobs.
The pictures coming out are just horrific. I felt bad for those who had been evacuated days ago wanting to return to their homes were still not being allowed because of the risk. What a nightmare.
Hah!
Have you ever heard of a book called Touchdown Jesus? I highly recommend it. It is well written, while it explores ND's struggles as it transitions from it's earlier roots as a smaller ethnic Catholic school transitioning to a large elite academic institution. In particular it focuses on the conflict of ND reconciling its football program, sports ethos, and Catholicism, with the ethos and required perceptions of becoming an elite academic institution. How do you move past Rudy, but still assure he remains in his rightful place in the school's DNA? It ain't easy!
It's a really well-written & introspectional tome, and if you're Irish, Catholic, academic, a football junkie, have ND ties, or some combination of the above, I think you'll really like it.
As for me, I've been an ND Irish junkie from the cradle. ND and Catholicism were in my neighbor's DNA, even if many of us had Polish or Italian blood. Growing-up as a kid, in my neighborhood there was no ticket more valuable - none - than a ticket to an Irish game. Saturday's in the fall were for ND. Story over. The school was that pervasive.
Besides football though, I'm sold in general on the school with the gold dome in South Bend. ND may not be ranked #1 nationally in any of its specific individual academic disciplines. But it is ranked in the single digits to maybe 12 or so, in nearly all of it's major programs. Meaning as a whole, it is a very strong academic institution. I think this is easily missed - the totality of ND academics and general excellence of the institution itself. And its alumini association might be the best in the country. I don't think I've seen a tighter alumina association out there, including the highly vaunted Yalies. Yale may have alumini association clubs physically located across the country to use as a local knowledge resource. Notre Dame has alumini across the country who will put you up in their spare room! And feed & entertain you!
One last item: If you enjoy going to games, consider a Northwestern game! It's a truly unique Big Ten experience, in that it's a relatively small, intimate, calm, relaxed, and very civilized (for lack of better words) experience for a Big Ten game. Ryan Field and Evanston, with it's former dry-city Women's Christian Temperance Union ethos, is the exact antithesis of an OSU game & High Street!
Anyway, for reference: (Amazon) Touchdown Jesus: Faith and Fandom at Notre Dame
A nightmare is a good way of describing it.
eta: To top it off, we had a 3.6 earthquake about 15 miles from our house this morning; Lake Henshaw.
The entire house shook and it came with a loud boom.
good grief Trix!
Your state has a fire problem, an earthquake problem, a homeless problem, a drug problem, an illegal immigrant problem, a taxation problem...……….aside from the earthquake issue, the rest of the problems could be made much better with the right leadership.
I read somewhere where the smoke from one of these nightmares can be seen from space!
I bet! But you know, there's just something x-tra special about seeing them in South Bend, if you ever get the chance. Our entire family went to the Notre Dame vs. Navy game last year when they were here in San Diego. It was a surreal, awesome experience. The score was high for ND, and my grandson kept getting hoisted by the fans around us each time ND scored... We laughed a lot over that and have some great videos of his experience.
If he likes ND, and especially if he can relate to the traditional ND demographics - particularly Catholicism - I'm sure he'll love it!Thanks for giving me a xmas gift idea for my hubby. He would love that book.
Not at all! Happens to me all the time with posts I save for later, and then even worse they sometimes get lost or forgotten!I should have responded sooner but at the time I liked your post, I was headed off in another direction. Forgive me.
Someone should ask Pocahontas if she can get her drum-beating, fake Vietnam veteran, fellow Indian chief tribesman to go out to California and slap one of his rain dances on the bad weather to see if he can get it back under control.
good grief Trix!

I'm asking you if you can possibly put aside the juvenile partisan nonsense long enough to acknowledge the dire circumstances some fellow Americans are in.
Complete idiocy, your post is. No wait, you're another right-wing Christian, aren't you. I take it back- anything you say is acceptable so beak off to your heart's content.
****sakes.
I have heard it said that if California were to open lumber harvesting back up they would have much less of a problem with old tree growth fueling so many forest fires.
