LA Now The ‘City Of Rats’? Report Warns Of ‘Alarming Increase’ In Rodent Population – CBS Los Angeles
07/16/2019 ~ LOS ANGELES (CBSLA)
“California is being overrun by rodents – and without immediate emergency action by state and local government, we face significant economic costs and risk a public health crisis,” said Carl DeMaio, chairman of Reform California, at a news conference Tuesday at City Hall in downtown Los Angeles.
DeMaio highlighted the findings of the group’s new report which cited an increase in the state’s homeless population, along with elimination of the most effective pest control tools, as “significant” factors on the ongoing crisis. The study surveyed nearly two dozen private pest control companies that operate throughout California and found all of them reported that Rat Service Requests were up “substantially” in the last 12 months.
Pest control professionals and sanitation workers told the survey team they observed an “alarming increase” in Norway rats moving around during the day, behavior that experts described as “highly abnormal”.

Comment:
It seems LA and NY are mirror images of each other. Fascinating. Up to and including the four foot and two foot variety of RATS. I guess what they need is more illegal aliens entering Los Angeles along with the homeless. That ought to seal the deal to bubonic plague. I understand that there's already an epidemic of Typhus there. I understand that San Francisco is close behind L.A., It appears that one the East, New York City isn't far behind although they've been shipping the homeless to other cities...

Dr. Drew Pinksy warns of plague threat from LA homeless

KABC’s Dr. Drew Pinsky thinks so… and on his KABC Radio show warned LA City Councilman Mitch Englander that there’s going to be an outbreak of something like the plague. “There’s going to be, Mitch…there’s going to be an outbreak of something like the plague…some rodent-borne either rickettsial like typhus…or plague.

Oct 06, 2018 · A typhus outbreak has been reported in Los Angeles and neighboring Pasadena. Health officials are warning residents to avoid opossums, rats, and feral cats.

Well, that is totally expected. A well fed and sheltered rat is a breeding rat. Trash piles provide rats with all the food and shelter that they need to breed successfully.

At least we can rely upon PETA assuring the rats are not harmed.

Well they say as California goes, so does the nation. We already see the Homeless and the mess of garbage, needles, urine and human waste in the streets of L.A. San Francisco, Baltimore, Detroit, Flint, St. Louis, New York and Chicago. Ever Democrat city seems to be over run with the homeless, garbage, rodents, human waste, etc. Well then I guess the old adage is correct. As California goes so do the Democrat cities. You can't blame Trump for this.. It's all on the Dems.....

For what it is worth, this ( LA, San Fran and more) is a stain on us all. Please don't turn this into a partisan issue. It is people we are talking about. We, all of us, should be ashamed.
Lets find solutions instead of throwing this atrocity at each other.

Actually, it is people being permitted to trash the environment with impunity that we are talking about. Of course, there are laws against this, but in some places those laws are simply not enforced on some people. When city governments decide that using the streets as rent free camping sites with dumping (even of raw sewage) permitted it seems kind of silly to demand that anyone pay for trash removal or septic/sewer systems.

So what is the solution? More awareness?

Enforce the laws equally or remove those laws. Why should most have to pay rent, yet some can live rent free on public property?

That's long term. We have to act now. Not in a partisan way, but actually do something. This a blight on all of us, is seen t/o the world.
Let be compassionate and avail these people some dignity.

Let's all be compassionate and demand that everyone show the general public respect by by not living on, shooting up drugs on and ****ing on the sidewalks. Why is that asking too much of people?

Once you make OK to do pretty much whatever one wants (if they can't pay a fine) then the breakdown of civilized society is assured - see San Francisco.

I would venture to say that it's up to both the State and the cities where these "atrocities" are taking place learn to fix their home rule approaches to the problems rather than to depend on the federal government.

So again, what is the solution? Lock them up? Where? Our prisons are full and overwhelmed. Our mental health facilities have much to be desired. How many of those who are shooting up on drugs have been discarded by the VA with some bags full of drugs to pacify them to move on? I don't know the number, just asking. I am taking this seriously.
How many of them out there on the street, the ones who are being a nuisance, have been addicted to drugs by doctors who didn't want to deal with them more than 5 minutes?
Of course they are now misbehaving, because the drugs and their circumstances have robbed them of all dignity.
How many others are out there, stuck, without transportation and funds or working limbs and minds to move on?
Do you know that one lengthy illness can put most of us in the same situation?
Don't get me wrong, being attacked by homeless and their mess and whatever it brings along is not something I want to deal with on daily basis.
But what do we do?

Open up psychiatric facilities to take care of the mentally impaired and begin taking care of the homeless rather than allowing them to fester in their own waste. The cities tha t are the subject of this problem are all on the verge of bankruptcy by paying huge retirement payments and little to no infrastructure gains.

It has gotten out of hand and so overwhelming, we have to make a concerted effort.

The facility was closed in the mid-90s and now has been incorporated into the campus of CSU

But what do we do?

You are asking me the very questions which could (and should) be answered by those causing the problem. What, exactly, does society owe them and why?

You seem to be a logical person, so why should we (society) tolerate this nonsense? Do you propose some new and improved "reward for personal failure" programs? If so, then why not offer those same public benefits (rewards?) to those who do not (yet) camp on and **** on the sidewalks or continue to poison themselves with "street drugs"?

I'd like a taxpayer funded home a fair bit nicer than the single-wide, 1960's vintage, mobile home I am currently required to pay rent to live in. I'd like to have all sorts of public handouts if they were made available but, in return, I should be expected to behave myself, remain relatively sober, perform some useful work (if I am not disabled) and respect the dignity of others in order to "qualify" for them.

It is a general question.

Obviously the people that are being elected into local and state government do not know what to do to solve the problems of LA, SF and Sacramento. Yet, they continue to raise their own salaries and spend on boondoggles like high speed trains that go no where.

It seems like the more "progressive" a city is, the more of a racially segregated ****hole it is. If leftists can't even run a city, why on earth would anyone want them in the federal government?

True. At one time Obama had full control and he did nothing about Chicago (his hometown).

Don't blind yourself to the truth. It's Democratic cities that are **** holes.
