Alaska hits earliest 70-degree readings on record | TheHill

Parts of Alaska had their earliest 70-degree ratings on record this month as the Last Frontier continues to see record warming.

Klawock, a town in southeastern Alaska, reached 70 degrees Fahrenheit on March 19, the state’s earliest reading ever to reach that temperature, according to CNN.

NOAA describes AK as the 'fastest warming state.' Could be another sign of the global warming that Trump & other Repubs dismiss as a hoax.

Consider the source. You are citing The Hill, who in return is citing CNN. CNN is not even remotely a credible source. It hasn't reached 45°F yet in Klawock, AK, and it isn't expected to until Thursday.

It reached 70 on March 19th. Go check any weather site that lets you search past dates. Here is one:

You will notice that the temperature mysteriously begins to increase at midnight, adding 30°F by the time it reaches 6:00 AM, and then just as mysteriously drops 21°F until it reaches 49°F just after 1:00 PM. Please explain how surface temperatures can suddenly start increasing at night when the winds are under 15mph?

It could be just a fluke, or it could be a malfunctioning thermometer, or it could be something more deliberate. One thing is certain, it was never actually 70°F in Klawock, AK, on March 19, 2019.

For over 30 years, climate models have predicted the northern latitudes would warm faster and that is exactly what has happened.

Evidently you have never lived in the Midwest, particularly near the plains, that kind of thing happens regularly here. For example, look at the wind directions. The wind was blowing off the land not the water, thus it would not be getting the moderating effects of the ocean. The dew point was only 36 degrees, thus the air was very dry and could warm quickly.

Point being there is nothing impossible about what happened.

we used to have pretty hard winters in my state when i was a kid. it's more like the upper south here now. it's pretty much beyond debate that the climate is changing.

Even if there was not a thermometer anywhere on earth, we would know the climate was changing significantly due to changes in average snowpack, the northern movement of the tundra tree line, the movement of alpine treelines, the rapid retreat of glaciers all over the world, the northern movement of boreal forests, melting permafrost, and so on.

Hell you can grow palm trees in Central Arkansas now. That is crazy. Magnolias grow in Omaha now. The USDA zones have moved over 200 miles North just since 2000.

i have commuted to work since 1999, and the changes in snowfall during the winter have been significant. some of the stuff i drove through back then, i would probably say **** it now and work from home.

Youre right. I have seen similar things happen here in Ohio. But it strikes me as more flukish than evidence of global warming.

Well I would agree in this case that you can't tie a single weather event to AGW. It's just weather and crazy things can happen.

Again. Thank god we have our best men on the job out there analyzing the data for us.

Seems like the people actually living there and the NWS are in on the plot, along with all the local communities reporting record temps.

Buncha commies who don’t understand temperature, I bet.

I just happen to live in Alaska where temperatures do not magically increase by 30°F at night. I don't know what fantasy land you live in, but surface temperatures do not increase at night when there is virtually no wind or precipitation. You certainly aren't going to get 70°F when the dew point is only 36°F. Which tells me the 70°F temperature being reported is completely bogus. It was either caused by a malfunctioning thermometer, or it was deliberate fraud. Either way the reality is considerably different than what was reported by the Fake News media.

Still incapable of providing anything other than infantile comments I see. Why am I not surprised?

I'm one of those people who actually lives there.

Do let me know when you have something intelligent to contribute. I can hardly wait.

March 19th 2019, it was 70 degrees Fahrenheit. You can find that date from weather underground, here is the picture:

So both CNN and the Hill were right, you were wrong by simply dismissing the source. So they were credible, your claim was not.

It's no fluke or malfunction. Warming is happening in Alaska and Canada faster than anywhere else. This has been reported in the CBC and the BBC.

LOL.

Well, I live in the USA, where Alaska is located, so I think I know what the temperature was.

No- it’s all a giant global conspiracy! It was really a different temperature- because when you live in Alaska, you know these things.

I live in Alaska, and your sources are wrong. The true test whether or not warming is even happening in Alaska is the Nenana Ice Classic. Every year since 1917 the break-up of the ice on the Nenana River at a particular location is recorded to the minute. The ice has broken up as early as April 20th, and as late as May 20th. Lately it has been breaking up the week before May, or the last week of April. If you can guess exactly when the break up will occur, to the minute, you can win ~$100,000. There has been no significant changes to the Nenana River break-up in the last 20 years.

You are being indoctrinated into believing propaganda.

Exactly. And The Hill is also citing the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Another notorious source of fake news.

At some point, the abject ignorance has to end, right?

I mean, you people can’t live in an alternative reality your whole lives, right?

I will defer to you on alternative reality. From the sound of it, you are more of an expert on that than I am.

Always perennially wrong.

For me being a fisherman, I have seen the changes in dominance of fish species in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Lakes that a few decades ago had predominantly cold water species like northern pike, muskies, whitefish, burbot, walleye and small mouth bass.

Large mouth easily outnumber small mouth in areas it would be rare to find them. Catfish are being seen further north than ever before.

Water temps have been climbing for decades.

Hell it's gotten to be point you can t even drive a truck on the ice most of the winter...
