California governor accuses Trump of keeping disaster money from wildfire survivors

Yes, of course...you're absolutely right.
The most recent fires however, affected a lot more than just the homeowners. Entire towns had their infrastructure erased.
The towns simply ceased to exist altogether.

which is why there are funds and fund have been given to rebuild. There is no evidence that FEMA is holding funds back.
more so since they have already given out millions in rebuilding funds already.

if the Gov thinks they are withholding funds then let him prove it with actual documents.

not really it just depends on how the action was taken.

IE if trump declared it an emergancy then he cannot lawfully withhold funds.
if the Gov asked for it go be declared an emergency then trump could deny his request.

so far here is nothing that states funds have been witheld.

the CA Gov. needs to provide evidence that support his accusations.
that is how this works.

If CA has been given money then the CA Gov is a lying sack of crap.

nothing is being withheld. rebuilding homes is not easy and takes forever.

my neighbors house caught fire. like 4 months ago and they are still not done with it.
why? because they have to resubmit plans to the city for the rebuild they have to be approved
before any work can even start.

a lot of the issues is that many of the homes have been grandfathered in over the years and now have
to meet new building codes and standards.

this can take months just by that alone.

Good points but even you will admit that, with the fusillade of daily Twitter threats (which by the way ARE official White House communications, it has been ruled) it is almost impossible to keep up. HAVE the funds been stopped or was it just an empty threat by a barking dog?
Hard to say, check back in three hours! Maybe the funds stopped, maybe they didn't!
And for that, CA's governor is THE LIAR? Are you kidding me?

Yes, I understand the time frame for rebuilding is often fraught with obstacles, regs and red tape. I used to live in Tornado Alley, and although we were damn lucky, some folks I knew were not.

By the way, when the massive tornado swarm hit Joplin MO back in 2011, FEMA helped pay but the biggest thing that they did was to "get out of the way" where red tape is concerned. It appears that they learned some lessons from Katrina, because they stepped back and let the state and local governments do what was necessary to just get started on recovery.

The last thing any state needs is political kabuki theater.
I see a lot of it from a certain Twitter feed where natural disasters in California are concerned.

1-It sure seems like Newsome is talking out of his ass. THere is no indication FEMA isnt still helping California and has been.
2-Its also funny to hear leftists talk about the 'REAL" National Emergency. I think since Trumps announcement there have been 3 so far.
3-newsome just made Trumps case for the National Emergency and the need for more and better walls.

First, he agreed with Trump that there IS a national crisis and sent 400 Ca National Guardsmen to fight illegal Immigration, drugs, and gangs. Then he pulled 260 of those Guardsmen claiming the National Emergency thing was bull****. Finally, he is claiming Trumps withdrawal of funding to Ca threatens their payments to the 100 National Guardsmen, which are vital to fighting illegal immigration, drugs, and gangs.

Idle threat

yes, he should be able to prove his accusation. that is how our society is supposed to work.
He perfectly knows 100% if the funds are coming or not. So if they are not coming let him produce the evidence
to support it. if he can't then he is lying and he is lying on purpose.
Would you not care about getting the facts?

Well FEMA's main job is to coordinate and help nothing more nothing less and they are usually under control of the local government unless the local government
is incompetent.

The last thing any state needs is political kabuki theater.

Then the Governor shouldn't make claims he can't support without evidence.

this is what happens when everything you do depends on some moral outrage.
you lose site of the last morale outrage.

CA governor accuses Trump of keeping relief money from wildfire victims

California Gov. Gavin Newsom blasts President Donald Trump's declaration of a national emergency Friday and accuses him of forgetting about the "real emergency" needs of survivors of the disastrous Camp Fire.

Newsom says there are still survivors waiting for federal disaster recovery money and people are suffering.
==============================================
CA is also joining several other states in a lawsuit to challenge the national emergency declaration that the president is using to get billions of dollars to fund his southern border wall.

Trump is ignoring the real post-fire emergency in CA in order to fulfill a hollow campaign promise of building an unneeded wall along the border with Mexico.

The California Wildfires are just a made up crisis and providing money for that is just a campaign promise made by Newsom.

No way that's an accident. I'm calling shenanigans.

Nothing has been proven so i have no idea what you are talking about.
by all evidence FEMA is still handing out money.

if you have proof that they aren't i would like to see it.
The Gov. can't provide it so you must have something that he doesn't.

See: "raking forests".

How is building in those areas any different than Southern state developers building in known high risk flood plains?
Yeah, fully 65% of California's woodlands are federal land.
I am not saying that you or anyone is wrong about local and state government roles in wildfire assistance but discounting the federal role is not a hill you want to die on because today's wildfire is tomorrow's Southern hurricane, or tornado.
This stuff happens every year somewhere. With the climate undergoing significant change, it's bound to happen more, and with more disastrous consequences.

It really isn't. Yet the local and State govt. allow it to happen.
