Seattle reverses itself on Homeless Head Tax

we should ship the homeless to north korea. They would make great workers over there.

I'll tell you what.....the counsel just got a great old fashioned tune-up at the woodshed.....they found themselves with little support getting reamed for long lists of demonstrated incompetence.

Turns out that Seattle is not California after all, here the citizens have some expectations for well functioning government.

Yup. The handwriting was on the wall...plenty of signatures to put it to a vote.

It would be a lie for them to claim they didnt know a majority of King County/Seattleites were against it, but they knew it would be confirmed in a vote.

Counsel Woman Sawant
URGENT ACTION ALERT on Amazon Tax to build affordable housing: @SeattleCouncil will repeal the tax on big biz at noon tomorrow! This is a capitulation to bullying by Amazon & other big biz. This backroom betrayal was planned over weekend w/o notifying movement (incl. my office).

EDIT: I am trying to figure out why a city leader is advertising that they are completely out of the loop.

Maybe this woman is none too bright.

Lot's of folks say so.

What a black eye for this new mayor, and the last one sure sucked.....they need to spend the next year rebuilding trust with their citizens this mayor and this counsel.

AWESOME:
What’s happened is that the Seattle City Council has seen some polling that the head tax would lose in November; that an overtaxed populace would have a say. So the council members are all saying, “This proves that we’re listening.”

Wrong. They had a chance to listen before they passed the head tax.

What this displays, unequivocally, is that the members of the council are incompetent, in over their heads, and really under-qualified for the job that they do. No major corporation would pass a $400 million price increase on its customers without knowing how the money would be spent. Any executive that approached a company that way would be fired. But that’s how the council does it because the council is full of a bunch of low-IQ zealots. They’re just not very bright. So they pass this head tax and then a few weeks later, they say, “Oopsie-daisy.”
Dori: Cowardly council covering its hide with head tax repeal

But you know what the BS part is, by heading off the vote they will simply try a different tax measure later and can use the fact that a vote was never to say they really aren’t defying the will of the voters

No, things have changed over the last 6 months, to include all of the Sound Transit problems and finding out that they straight up got lied to on Move Seattle........The City Council is just now finding out how the mood has gone sour.... how trust in government is collapsing. .

Their bell has been rung, things are going to be different going forwards with this Council and this Mayor.

Plus the downtown congestion problems get worse when the tunnel opens.

And as they put in more of these idiotic bike lanes.

Removing street capacity as they go.

These boys and girls have to grow up.

FAST

My good friend owns a tech startup in Seattle. He is subleasing a building in Seattle. After the homeless tax, he instantly started to look for new building east of Seattle.

A tax that punishes the succesful. Absolutely pathetic.

I dont know. They may use lots of smaller taxes but if they try to implement something else sweeping, that also can be taken to a vote by petition.

They tried to force something down their constituents throats and got a major reality check.

I drove through Seattle a month ago. The tent cities and shanty towns are huge and there are many of them. I guess it's because Seattle has comparatively milder winters to other places more East? It's still kind of crazy to look at. I have been to many American cities and haven't seen a sight quite like that before.

I guess Seattle's only recourse is to look for State or Fed funding now?

Regional is more likely, at least the entire King County. We are already used to working regionally with Sound Transit, though as I have mentioned Sound Transit has a lot of problems now and is rapidly losing the trust of the people just as Seattle government is.

She is an extremist who wants there to be a homelessness problem so that she can weaponize it against the city's successful companies. I have zero respect for that.

SHe is a socialist and ran on a socialist platform for city council and Seattle voted for her. :doh

Who's surprised that a city in the Communist Republic of Washington voted for a socialist?

Since that is your impression of WA ST....only you.

The state is almost exactly divided red/blue.

Europeans are socialists. Bernie Sanders is a socialist. People can be relative socialists and still be pretty rational and cooperative. Sawant blows way past that. She is militant Marxist whose goal is social unrest. She is not concerned with Seattle needing to raise taxes to fund things. She is not concerned with actually solving the city's growing homelessness problem. She is trying to agitate and inflame.
