There is a new "initiative Petition 42" that is being proposed that will effect all gun owners in Oregon. Reading the measure sounds like something out of the book 1984. They want to define an assault weapon as anything with a detachable magazine capable of 10 rounds or more. Also any rifle that "looks" like a military grade weapon. My thought on this, you can put lipstick on a pig and it is still a pig, you can dress a pig up and make it look fancy, but it is still a pig.

sounds like they (1) want a lot of gun owners to leave the state (2) trying to start a war

and so, these bull**** ideas will also apply to LE? right ..........

well, Oregon can go **** themselves in my book .......

What receiver, pistol or rifle, is not capable of utilizing a 10 round mag? Hint: don't reply "sub compact", one could have a custom 3 foot mag with 50 rounds and it would work.

It doesn't make sense to define a weapon by mag as anything's possible. Something's wrong with that.

Two things... sounds like you have not read 1984 and when talking about guns you think of pigs wearing lipstick? That is strange.

What I meant by pigs wearing lipstick, is you can dress up a Ruger 10/22 to look just like a military grade weapon, but it is still a Ruger 10/22, it still functions like a Ruger 10/22.

Then why are you talking about pigs?

That makes my Ruger 10/22 an assault weapon, that make my wifes .380 an assault weapon, next it will be BB guns.

Sounds like it is more than that, this portion eliminates most guns:

(A) Semiautomatic rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and has at least one of the following

(B)Semiautomatic pistol, or any semiautomatic center fire or rim fire rifle with a fixed magazine, that has the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds of ammunition;

The key here is the words "has the capacity to", does not say "does have" but is basically saying could have.

The are trying to legislate civilian firearms back to bolt action, three round magazines and pistols back into revolvers. SCOTUS will not be on their side.

It would also make my Marlin Model 60 an assault weapon. Like I said, They have lost their freakin minds.

How far can you catch a football?

Is it an assault football? That's a football that can theoretically travel farther than 10 feet.

Oregon is just trying to do in one fell swoop what it took California decades to do.

Yeay, Oregon.

Gosh, we've got guns in our nearly antique stuff that have magazines that qualify for that. The problem with Oregon is you have Portland, then you have the rest of the state and rural areas. So, if it gets on the ballot, it could pass. As I've said before, if gun advocates don't put reasonable laws in place, people that know nothing about guns whatsoever could put laws in place that aren't very workable.

Yes, the problem is Portland and surrounding area. They think that all of Oregon should be like Portlandia.

It certainly should not be like the red neck, gun obsessed racist hinterlands.

Oregon consist of 98,000 square miles and the people in the 7,000 square miles the make up Northwest Oregon. Northwest Oregon seems to dictate to the rest of Oregon on how they are going to live, how they are going to graze their cattle and now what type of fire arms they are allowed to own. It is no wonder why the people of the other 91,000 square miles of Oregon refer to the Northwest corner of Oregon as "The Peoples Socialist Republic of Portland"
