What Happens When Democrats Run Your State?

I feel that I may own you an apology Grand Mal. I was extremely irritable earlier today and I shouldn't have taken it out on you. Please accept my sincere apologies good sir.

Camlok has the right of it. I should have kept my composure and simply did what Camlok did.

Again Grand Mal, please accept my sincere apologies.

Cool.
Funny how a simple point of punctuation can make such a difference. I thought 'law in order' was a term I hadn't heard before. I thought you weren't telling me what it meant for whatever reason. Thanks for clearing it up. Glad it turned out to be so simple.
All good.

Very, very classy! Heart warmingly classy!

Best-Run States Are Low-Tax Republican, Worst-Run Are High-Tax Democratic, Study Finds

JOHN MERLINE 7/11/2017

Several states, including Republican states, have decided to raise taxes this year to cover budget shortfalls. But a new study suggests that the states might find themselves in worse financial shape after the money starts rolling in.

According to the latest ranking of states by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, the most fiscally sound states in the nation are all low-tax, GOP strongholds, while the 10 least-solvent states are almost all high-tax and heavily Democratic.

The rankings in the fourth-annual "Ranking of the States by Fiscal Condition" report, which was released this morning, are based on a review of audited financial statements for 2015 covering five measures that gauge the states' ability to pay bills, avoid budget deficits, and meet long-term spending needs and cover pension liabilities.

Nevada has turned Blue, it's a pity for sure.

What does 'law in order' mean?

The same stupid stuff we have been getting for decades, throwing more black people in jail for longer sentences than their white counterparts, filling the coffers of the prison industrial complex, making ignorant people feel "safe" that all we have to do is get tough and crime will stop, having no job training or rehabilitation, and then once they are out shunning them so tehy have little chance of succeeding and leading to high rates of recitivism.

The same stupid thing that has done little to stop crime and has lead to the US being the leader of imprisoned in the world. Land of the Free my ass

Meanwhile, Europeans countries are selling prison space to neighboring countries because they actually rehabilitate criminals and recitivism is very low
Wow, totally off topic, sorry

Seems liberal public policies turned the best countries in the world into, well, the best countries in the world.

I would concede that it's policy specific as to the results achieved / inflicted.
Clearly, the liberal public policies of San Francisco end up sticking to your shoes and potentially spreading diseases.

A few years ago Canada closed Kingston Penitentiary, a max security prison in Ontario. I was advocating keeping it open and taking in prisoners from the US on a contract basis.
It was a pretty medieval facility, though, might have been cruel and unusual.

You mean California, a state that has an economy in the top 10 of the world?

you right wingers really are pathetic. Should we post pics of all the red state crumbling towns, trailer parks, toothless meth and heroin addicts? Red states has just as much ****holes as do any place.

Oh, and you rag on about poverty, but guess who actually tries to help? Who fights for livable wages, ability of kids in poor neighborhoods to get access to better education, have at least one solid meal a day? Dems.

Who actually does everything in their power to make sure people stay poor and keep wages stagnant and cheers on giving billionaires tax breaks, the people who have all the wealth.

You people cheer on policies that have allowed the top 1% to gain 85% of wealth gains

Top 1% of Earners Take Home Majority of Income Growth | Money

Wow, no wonder there are crumbling poor neighborhoods and increased poverty.

Which completely ignores the missed potential if CA had a far more conservative leadership. CA is like having a car that could go 300 MPH, but is only going 200 MPH. Yes, 200 MPH is impressive, but it's not what the car is capable of. CA is capable of far more than it currently does, but is choked back by policies that make it less productive.

It's not a process. Read the full sentence. Or at least more than 3 damn words. And use reading comprehension. It helps. Tremendously.

via law in order to make it exactly like

If all you're doing is bucking for some points because I didn't use some kind of punctuation that you think should be in there buzz off.

That should have been:

"If all you're doing is bucking for some points because I didn't use some kind of punctuation that you think should be in there - buzz off."

Not because they're liberal, that's what I mean. Seattle's a great place to live, and just north of there Vancouver is always in the top 5 worldwide and it's about as liberal as you can get.
I could make a good case for liberalism improving the livability of cities and countries. It'd be based on the same fallacy that makes conservatives blame urban blight on liberal policies, but hey, it'd just be part of the game, right?

I more than agree with that. Over the last nine years we have been run by a group called "Vision", seen to be left, and is, but with an incredible understanding of meeting the people's basic needs first, and not afraid to think big.

Ten years ago a subway under Broadway to UBC was "an impossible dream", never happen. Today, $ is committed, planning has begun....and not cut and cover, we've going to tunnel 35 km.

When they came in we had a needle problem, teams to people had to go around schools to make sure no rigs have been left overnight. That problem is gone by using and supporting harm reduction, free needles and free needle disposal all around town.

There are about 20 more points I could make, but the biggest issue we have is "bike lanes", Vision has torn up all of downtown and major arteries creating the 'greatest system of bicycle paths in North America', which I doubt. When they started I thought it was the Terrible Tom years and we were looking at riots in the streets.

Adding to that is an expansion of green space, elevated green space (rooftops - we have trees on tops of sky scrapers, I know really excessive), a near zero of actual homelessness, no open drug use, and crime down to its lowest level in history - all the result of "leftist" social policies like creating hard to homeless sheltering, the above mentioned harm reduction, emphasis on walking and cycling over the car.

And to be truthful....I actually fought some of that stuff, especially how they went about housing, but, damn, it works

Ian Calderon wants restaurateurs to think long and hard before giving you a straw.

Calderon, the Democratic majority leader in California's lower house, has introduced a bill to stop sit-down restaurants from offering customers straws with their beverages unless they specifically request one. Under Calderon's law, a waiter who serves a drink with an unrequested straw in it would face up to 6 months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

Oh yeah, California Land of the Looniest Leftists.

If I had to live in a city, a million plus, Vancouver would be it.I used to hate the place, I'm Surrey born and raised, but after some experience of how cities can be, it's a great place.

If it didn't have those "pesky" liberals, it wouldn't have silicon valley or hollywood. IOW: it's the liberals who bring the horsepower.

I wonder if it'll ever dawn on conservatives as to why that could be... hmm... the academics, journalists, youth, actors, scientists; why are they all so damned liberal?!? It's a conspiracy!

Hint: people don't like making movies in California anymore, the taxes take too much off the top.

You just can't make this stuff up

So, your position is that the study, which was done by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University is a RW pundit? Interesting
The link is embedded, https://www.mercatus.org/statefiscalrankings

The Mercatus Center was founded by Richard Fink, the former executive Vice President of Koch Industries, owned by the Koch brothers.

Again, they are right wing.

All that stuff.

Surrey has become a choice place to live. Walley still has some issues, but it's high rises and condos now, resident considered fortunate not to have to do a "long" commute. Even with the new 8 lane bridge it's a parking lot

One thing though- it's a travesty that Surrey only has what, 2K? of Skytrain line. For it's size and tax contribution Surrey should have rail transit at least equal to Burnaby or Coquitlam.
I blame the last Mayor, Diane Watts. If that's how she looks after her constituents I hope she misses out on the Liberal leadership and has given up her Federal seat for naught.

NJ has been run by an assortment of leaders from both sides, with the exception of one in my lifetime Gov Tom Keen they have all been a horror show. That said Tom wasn't the greatest either.

When democrats run your state, you can expect both good and bad things to happen. What people are doing is only focusing on the bad parts.

The specific liberal / progressive policies that are afflicting San Francisco relate to being a sanctuary city and a home less sanctuary as well.
These are the people that are crapping all over the city turning it into a ****hole, literally.
Being a sanctuary city and a home less sanctuary most certainly are not conservative policies.
Allowing people to crap all over the city, certainly are not conservative policies.
