California: Kamala Harris... Senator?

I missed this. I usually keep up better with my former home, but I completely missed this. Someone please fill me in. Did Barbara Boxer simply decide to retire? I know she's getting up there in age.

How did the election for an open seat play out? Was it close or contentious, or pretty much a done deal from the start?

As a Senator I hated Boxer, but having watched Harris from a safe distance when she was in San Francisco I am no fan of hers, either.

Boxer retired and Harris won 60% of the vote vs another D.
No R's ran against them.

Trust me, any Democratic Woman who is strong and stands up to Republican Men ... is a threat.

AND she's dark of hue? Oh my, yeah, they lost their shyte in the Sessions "hearing".

I like how you guys lost to a woman yesterday and are still pulling the "republicans are sexist" card.

Boxer retired. Race was between two democrats. Not close. Harris won by a large margin.

It's very difficult for the prejudiced to abandon their preconceived hatred in favor of real world facts.

Democrats have been taught since birth by people they respect that there are groups of people that they must hate because they are de-humanized, hate filled thugs who are somehow making the world a less hospitable place.

When real world facts run counter to preconceived notions, the real world facts are dismissed.

I guess training methodologies and outcomes for prejudice are common. Doesn't matter if the target of the hatred is non-Democrats, non-Whites or non-Muslims.

If something works, stick with it.

R's ran in the primary. California takes the two highest vote getters which happened to both be democrat.

One political party down, one to go.

I am reluctant to tweak progressives here, but I'll say it:

It's much more comfortable to walk into conversations under the assumption that women are a unified group with unified goals and interests, and if you read Mary Sue on the regular, then you have a deep insight into the daily issues that women face. Trump and half the Republican party might be sexist assholes or simply attached to institutions that oppress' womens right to self-determination, but this idea running around with progressives that powerful women inherently threaten Republicans is... greatly misguided. True in many important cases, but it's not a universal law. In England, they were more than happy to line up behind Margaret Thatcher to screw over the working-class population.

Anyway, this is going to get off-topic really, really fast, so I'm probably not going to respond further on this thread on this issue.

She got shut down when she started grandstanding like the hearing was the O.J. trial or something. The MSN is treating her like the nations next coming.

She has never run in a actual race where the outcome was contested.

She is famous in California for nothing other than the standard California check box:
Anti-gun, anti-death penalty, supports sanctuary cities, pro abortion, for treating parents of truant children as criminals, is against harsh prison terms for drug crimes, and cooperated with Gov Brown's cooperation with the Feds in letting dangerous criminals out of prison due to over crowding.

She pawns herself off as black but is one half Indian (India) and Jamaican, she also does not correct the record when she is identified as black, Indian, or Hispanic, depending on the money raising venue. Her race is defined as "fluid".

She and Rachel Dolezal would get along famously.
