California may end a decades-old ban on members of the Communist Party working in its government, after the state Assembly approved a bill that would delete references to the party from its employment requirements.The bill's sponsor, Assemblyman Rob Bonta, D-Oakland, said that California's laws should focus on individuals' actions and evidence rather than political affiliations and what he termed "empty labels."
Speaking on the floor of the Assembly, Bonta called the legislation a "cleanup bill that removes archaic and outdated references to the Communist Party in our state laws, specifically those stating that a public employee may be dismissed from employment if he or she advocates or is knowingly a member of the Communist Party."
The bill passed in a 41-30 vote, after a debate that touched on the Cold War, the U.S. history of fighting communism — and the potential for future conflicts.
While Bonta called the measure "an appropriate step forward" for the state, three of his Republican colleagues in the California Assembly rose to speak against the bill, AB 22.

Why not? They are no longer of interest other than as a historical aberration. We are no longer at war with them.
 
The follies of the young, when influenced by the left. History tends to repeat itself. 100 years ago there was a civil war fought over Communism, that when won led to decades of suffering and slaughter.

There are reasons, still relevant today, that laws exist that prohibit Communists from holding power in the US.
 
Has the news actually been received that the cold war is over and the west won? It's about time.
 
California is basically a communist state already. This does not surprise me.

The fact is, they already hold State Jobs, and a good argument could be made they hold elected office. I guess they just want to be able to come out of the closet.

The fact that the state government is dominated by the Democratic Party, of course. You do realize that Democrat, Socialist, Communist, Marxist, and liberal are all synonyms don't you?

Nevertheless, to hear the John Birch Society is alive and well and still engaging in its nuanced analysis. Takes me back. Impeach Earl Warren and that traitor Eisenhower!

So long as they don't violation the Constitution then there shouldn't be a problem. If we need a law to keep communists from taking over on any scale that would cause worry then we'd have already lost.

Still no explanation of how we in California live under communism. What parts of the platform or Pelosi speeches are commie? Can you refer me to an article that analyzes this from your perspective?

Years ago, one of John Steinbeck's characters, a farm boss, said in the context of labor agitation, "A communist is anyone who asks for 30 cents an hour when I am paying 20." Was that you in a previous (literary) life?

On the other hand, Trumpism and fascism seem to resemble one another. Specifics, you say?: 1- "I alone can solve these problems." That sentence would have made Mussolini proud. 2- "Make America (Italy, Germany) great again." Ditto. 3- Let's start tracking crimes by immigrants (aka Hitler tracking crimes by Jews). 4- Not small lies, "I didn't have sex with that woman," but big ones, 3-4 million illegal votes.

By the way, does anyone remember if a reporter ever asked The Donald when, in his opinion, America was great? Did He answer? Troubles me if no one put that question to him.

As one of the young men who wore a steel pot, carried an M16A1 with 20 round magazines singing about killing a 'Commie for Mommy'- I don't see how overthrowing a corrupt dynasty and installing a corrupt oligarchy means much to us today.

There has been far more damage done by the ignorant witch hunts conducted by pom-pass conservative politicians than any domestic commies. With the popularity of the domestic parties at an all time low I don't see how allowing people not of either party run for office as a bad thing-

Hell, Trump can run as a Republican and win- why can commies run for office??? :peace
