Man Linked to 9/11 Attacks Captured in Syria

WASHINGTON — A man linked to the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States, who was said to have praised “violent jihad,” was captured in Syria by US-backed forces more than a month ago, the Pentagon said on Thursday.

“We can confirm that Mohammad Haydar Zammar, a Syrian-born German national, was captured more than a month ago by SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) partners as part of their ongoing operations to defeat ISIS inside Syria,” Pentagon spokesman Eric Pahon said, using an acronym for Islamic State.

“We are working with our SDF partners to obtain additional details,” Pahon said.

The 9/11 Commission report, a Congressional account on the 2001 attacks, said Zammar was an “outspoken, flamboyant Islamist” who extolled “the virtues of violent jihad.”

It said Zammar reportedly had taken credit for influencing Ramzi Binalshibh, who is accused of wiring money to September 11 hijackers and passing information to al Qaeda operatives, and Mohammed Atta, who led the attack on the World Trade Center in New York City.

I'm not exactly sure what his role was, but I'm glad he's been caught at long last. Now if we could only go after the Saudis who helped orchestrate 9/11, and find out why the Bush Administration covered their ass, that'd be great.

The whole year after 9/11 was pretty much a **** storm for most parties involved.

This man may very well be one of the people that helped funnel money to the people responsible for those events. Yet we still don't really have much of a clue at this point. Bush and his people dropped the ball all that time ago and this has only gotten worse with time.

His role is the same as the other patsies--characters in a story told to deceive the public. The story has no facts to support it, only a constant retelling. This guy is just a character like Atta or Hanjour.

It's weird isn't it? A president can have ties to a massacre of 3,000 Americans, and peacefully retire into the sunset, while Trump is crucified for sleeping with a porn star a dozen years ago.

Certain ELEMENTS of the Saudi government contributed to AL Qaeda... So did folks in the US. So did folks elsewhere.

As to business dealing with Bin Laden folks not named Osama - Irrelevant.

That isn't quite the issue, but rather that they contributed directly to the 9/11 plot.

Furthermore, those elements of the Saudi government reached all the way to the Saudi ambassador to the United States.

The Saudi embassy in Washington D.C. paid to stage a dry run for the 9/11 hijackings, in 1999. You can't use the old line of 'only rogue elements in the Saudi government participated'. Strong evidence suggests that high level people in the Saudi government helped plan and fund the attack, for at least 2 years before it happened. This is very different than just casually funding Al Qaeda.

As to business dealing with Bin Laden folks not named Osama - Irrelevant.

Osama was disowned. By family and government.

Somebody was sure protecting him, and that extends back to the Clinton years.

How many glaring inconsistencies does one need in order to determine that there was a cover up? Or, that the cover up was partly designed to shield the Saudis, who happen to be in business with the Bush family?

Kean states it plainly, if mildly. I prefer Lt Colonel Anthony Shaffer's wording, when he said everyone on the 9/11 Commission was appointed to cover up for someone in the government. There's not much wiggle room in that statement, emphasis on 'cover up'.

The two people with the most intimate knowledge of the proceedings involving the 9/11 Commission, deemed it to be a failure that was designed to fail. In the world of politician-speak, it doesn't get any clearer than that.
