Police make arrest in East Chicago post office pipe bomb explosion
.......Police have been surveilling Krieg since Sept. 8, two days after the explosion at the post office located at 901 E. Chicago Ave, according to a complaint in court records. A postal worker was injured while handling a package that detonated shortly after 5:30 p.m. Sept. 6.
The worker, who was seven months pregnant, had cuts, abrasions and bruises to her head, legs and feet, and was treated at an area hospital, court records state. The woman and the baby are doing "fine," Patricia Armstrong, inspector in charge with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, said Thursday......
......Krieg ran as a Republican against Van Til and said at the time he would quit his high-paying job as an engineer for the position.
In 2013, Krieg filed a series of complaints against McDermott with the Lake County Board of Elections. All the allegations in those complaints were dismissed by the board.
McDermott said after Krieg failed at the Board of Elections, he began to go after the mayor's family in online forums........
