ISIS drone dropping precision bombs alarms U.S. military - Washington Times

In a new threat to the West, the Islamic State on Tuesday debuted on social media a commercially available drone dropping small bombs with pinpoint accuracy onto Iraqi targets in and around Mosul.
The new capability raises the specter that the Islamic State one day could attack urban areas from the air, not just on the ground. The U.S. military is alarmed by the terrorist army’s quick technological advances and is evaluating more than 20 systems to detect and destroy its drone air force. Other systems already have been rushed to the war.

Our adversaries are not letting grass grow under their feet, and neither should we.

Our adversaries are not letting grass grow under their feet, and neither should we.

Our Nation screwed up by supporting ISIS directly via Saudi Arabia, and indirectly by supporting al Qeda/ISIS in Syria. We swallowed the wrong turds. Government thinking that Saudi Arabia and ISIS are better than Assad. We were/are wrong and it is past time to rectify that policy. Assad is a damn sight better than ISIS. Saudi Arabia is the major sponsor of ISIS/Salafist terrorism worldwide and we are heljping them with arms, training, and sham publilc propaganda. Time to weed the garden, I believe. We need to remove Intelligence Agencies from Military Command and start doing honorable/righteous things again. I don't see the small drones as much of a problem. Use higher power microwaves to take control of the drones and send thatm back where they came from.

Just jam the radio signals. These are very likely drones they have purchased, and then slightly modified. Contact the manufacturers, get the operating signal bands, and voila, hijack those drones.

But I agree with Dave. Solve the real issue.

Pieceacake.

We already have had Warlock systems for some time the drones are not really a threat unless they have been heavily modified for use in hostile airspace, and electronic warfare conditions. Unfortunately as this conflict goes on we will be instructing our foes on how to make their drones more effective. We should take steps to shorten this conflict and soon.

Pretty much everything about the GWOT, especially how so many people buy into its legitimacy, makes me roll my eyes. But I do understand how the public perception is so well manipulated--they believe pretty much everything they are told.

So... the fact that ISIS now owns drones is, in your opinion, an "alternative fact" used to manipulate the people's perception ?

No, I think that this being theater meant for public consumption, the drones in question, if they actually do exist, are primitive with very low load carrying capability. Have we seen any pictures of these drones? Are they US drones given to ISIS, like the pick-up trucks they're driving? Where are they controlled from? Creech? England? Germany?

Did ISIS buy them from Amazon? We know little about them so far. Have they been successful?

How come this isn't causing widespread 's**ting my pants' fear? Whenever the US government goes, "Be very afraid, the commies, the terrorists, the 'fill in the blank' are coming" that's what patriotic Americans are supposed to do.

S**t their pants.

Are there actually people noticing that the sky was never falling?

Re: How ISIS-controlled drones like this are striking new fear within the U.S. milita

"Small bombs". From the photo, they seem to be not much bigger than hand grenades.

This is simply a COTS radio controlled aircraft that they added some kind of release mechanism to. Not what I would call "precision" at all, and certainly not much of a threat.

And as others have mentioned, easy enough to disrupt with electronic countermeasures.

This is really only a threat to unarmed civilians at local outdoor markets and the like. Great terror weapon, of little to no real military value.

Because there is nothing to really be afraid of here. The capabilities of this are a joke.
