Getting high on cannabis makes people vulnerable to 'false memories' | Live Science

Can you trust an eyewitness while they're high, or should you wait until they sober up?

People who are high on cannabis are more likely to form false memories, in which they wrongly "remember" information that they never actually learned or recall snippets of an event that never happened, new research suggests.

False memories can arise spontaneously when people draw faulty inferences from their actual experiences. For instance, you might remember your co-worker being at the big meeting last Monday because everyone else attended when, in reality, he was out sick. In other cases, external sources supply the misleading information that fuels false memories, whether in the form of leading questions, faulty personal accounts from other people or misinformed media coverage.

A lot of bad things can happen when people are stoned. If it leads to court, develop amnesia as a defense.

Questionable memory is not limited to pot smokers:

What have you all done? Getting high used to make one mellow, make crap tv, (even commercials,) Oscar worthy and reduce the left-overs in the fridge.........:thinking

I don't remember, I was blacked out on booze at the time.

This is why I drink. That way I can't form new memories, let alone false ones.

While everyone's vulnerable to false/enhanced memories, pot is an INCREDIBLY dangerous & addictive drug.

Incredibly dangerous and addictive???? based upon what? Its a drug, so being addictive and dangerous goes with the territory. Relatively speaking, however, compared to most drugs, alcohol in particular, its pretty benign. If you need to get high or merely "take the edge off", Marijuana is actually one of the safer ways to do that.

Marijuana vs Alcohol | Is Marijuana Safer Than Alcohol?

Alcohol, btw, can actually lead to dementia.

I guess for some it can be.

I never enjoyed it enough to use it regularly - even though we did when I was growing up - everyone I knew used & it was always being passed around.. still, I never dug it enough to use much. Everyone always laughed at me and called me a lightweight. . it's alright, now that we're in our 50's it's clear who the heavy users were, some still are LOL Being a lightweight has its benefits I guess.

Now that its legal, it's big business.. and now their making even MORE $$$ with the CBD craze going on ... crazy LOL

that one was pretty weak.

What's Trump's excuse? He supposedly never smoked anything or even had a sip of beer.....but he was there at 7 Eleven. And the list goes on...

I wanted to hear what their plan was for legalization of Marijuana and I didn't hear anyone say anything but I'd legalize it. What about use by minors, or sales to minors. What about the federal law that is on the books?
I get very tired of squabbling like little junior high school children and saying nothing constructive.

Yes, that's why the only way to tell if a person has used the substance is to perform a chemical analysis of his urine.

I recently quit MJ, again, because I kept going to the kitchen or bedroom and forgetting what I was doing.

They've come up with a reason for that, has nothing to do with pot. Has to do with going into a new room which the brain interprets differently.

Nope, didnt save a link. But it made sense when I read it. 'course I was high when I read it. ;)

No, it was a real study and did make sense.

Too bad facts and real life dont bear that out.

Same here. Now, it's legal here and I use it sometimes, in tinctures beneath the tongue, for neck pain relief or as a sleep aid. With more options, there's more ways to explore and see what works and how it affects you. Indica makes me seriously nauseous and I stick to sativa products. And some are more hallucinogenic, some better for relaxation. It's been an interesting journey. Found I'm not that into hallucinogenics and go for mixes that minimize that.

And not addicting, at least not for everybody. I just stopped for several months because I was looking for a new contract and didnt know if I'd need to take a piss test. (Didnt). Had no problems stopping.

??? Access for minors? It's part of every state's programs and guidelines. It's 'no.'

And the govt, even the Trumpster's, is overlooking the new legislation at the state level (but you knew that already). So we're figuring it out and it's working out well pretty much everywhere.
