Record-length drug tunnel discovered at U.S.-Mexico border

I have a nice backyard that would be a good ending point for one of those tunnels. Just saying.

The Cali border nope, the Texas border, very much. But thanks for going low and making this discussion pointless.

TRANSLATION : You are talking about a border wall you know nothing about and that is why you now claim I am "making this discussion pointless".

It was pointless the moment you started arguing without understanding.

Derpwall will be eleventy yards deep.

That's right. It is the user who funds the lucrative drug trade. Were there no market in the US, there would be no drug trade, no smugglers, no violence between cartels, and no need for tunnels.

There is surely also a significant amount of LEO corruption involved, just like we saw with alcohol prohibition. The idea that a multi-billion dollar (drug distribution) industry is almost completely invisible to law enforcement (claims of under 10% of supply interdicted?) defies belief. Certainly if every "druggie" knows where to "shop" then so does the typical cop/detective.

I think is a deterrent because as shown then they have to spend the money to build these tunnels and other ways but then again that money is nothing to them while we go in debt fighting it. I don't have all the answers but there's got to be a better way to fight this in a significant way.

The wall at Tijuana has been there quite some time. So we aren't going in debt for that part at least. The first iteration was actually temporary airfield matting. Vietnam surplus. A good example of repurposing surplus material.

So did the tunnels.

In fact in researching it, it looks like the first tunnel was discovered in 1990 the same year a fence was first built.

So we spend money on barriers and they still find ways around them and have been doing so for roughly 30 years. Maybe it's time we also start really focusing on other ways to target the drug trade instead of some people who think a wall/fence is a great solution?

Yep...

Ying, yang

Tactic, counter tactic.

And a wall is not the solution. It is part of the solution.

The Tijuana wall has nothing to do with Trump.

I'm talking about Derpwall. It will surround everywhere with its glory. If you have a sharpie on you and a map, I'll show you.

I caught the ABC and NBC version of this story, identical coverage, last evening.

It was comical to see the honchos from DEA and Border Patrol patting themselves on the back for their discovery. They bragged about how they had protected the American People from drugs and all sorts of other bogey men, justifying their bureaucratic existence.

Such theater!

They should have just taken a donut break instead.

No one said anything of the sort.

Tunnels are built as a reaction to walls.

Yep, like picks, saws, grinders and bolt cutters are a reaction to locks. Making a hole in the (often patrolled) wall is much more easily spotted than a tunnel under it is.

We are talking about the Border and tunnels used to defeat walls and fencing. You on the other hand think you are some sort of expert on the topic, as you have proven you really don't know squat. Consider this the last seconds I will waste on you here. Now don't forget to make another personal attack and claim "victory", you know where you can file that BS.

Ah. So Derpwall will cause tunnels even if it's really deep?

I leave near that border crossing. Yes, I know a bit about. Personal knowledge. Unlike you.

I'll leave the "expert" thing to the border patrol who have stated unequivocally that the wall has been a benefit to the US and a detriment to the illegal activities at the Tijuana border.

Now retreat nicely.

Do you have an actual solution to the problems at the border or is your only contribution mindless, Trump hating snark. Serious question.

There is nothing mindless about hating Trump. Snarky, maybe, but certainly not mindless. Sure, there are solutions to the problems at our border, but an expensive boondoggle isn't among them.
