New study shows evidence of positive outcomes is scarce while symptoms can be exacerbated

The use of cannabis medicines to treat people with depression, anxiety, psychosis or other mental health issues cannot be justified because there is little evidence that they work or are safe, according to a major new study.

A review of evidence from trials conducted over nearly 40 years, published in the journal Lancet Psychiatry, concludes that the risks outweigh the benefits. And yet, say the authors, they are being given to people with mental health problems in Australia, the US and Canada, and demand is likely to grow.

It also makes women want to have sex with jazz musicians.

My experience with it was extensive some years ago & I would classify pot as an aphrodisiac.

it's been a while, but it mostly made me want to watch documentaries, head to McDonalds, and then take a nap in no particular order. the last time i tried it, the **** was way too strong, though. i want to listen to music and take nature pictures, not hit myself in the head with a sledgehammer. get off my lawn.

FFS, no kidding. i hadn't done it for years before discovering that the 2012 stuff was a completely different sport. i had to wait 45 minutes before the world stopped moving sideways and then i could take pictures of the late afternoon sun in the woods while listening to Hope Sandoval. if it's ever legal in my state, i'll ask for the ****tiest weed on the menu, because that was good enough.

I don't know how much consideration to give to these "studies", but I do know that prescription drugs from doctors that are supposed to treat depression, anxiety, psychosis or other mental issues are often not effective, the dosages often need to be constantly increased until the patient it put on yet another prescription drug until the doctor decides it's not enough and pulls out his script pad once again.

I have no personal experience with depression, anxiety or these drugs, but I do know that the side effects from them can be very severe. I've known people on them and they've lived a roller coaster life of dramatic ups and downs on a daily basis. Side effects often include suicidal or homicidal tendencies, many mass shooters were under the influence of these prescription drugs.

Cannabis is a much more natural drug and IMO, negative side effects would not be as severe, and in many cases, benefits may outweigh the risks. That's my take on it anyway.

Proven every day on this board ...

After 2 weeks on PROZAC, I went from feeling moderately OK to suicidal. I've heard from other members that similar SSRI-type drugs have had the same effect on them.

I once went to a psychiatrist who just wrote prescriptions. All of the different categories of antidepressants gave me only side effects & no positive results.

Alcohol in more than moderate amounts nightly had some positive effects but in later years caused blackouts that sometimes resulted in a 2-day stay in a hospital with stitches in my forehead. This symptom is alcohol-related & is called micturition syncope. It occurs during or while you're urinating or soon thereafter. Due to a drop in BP, the brain just shuts off & you black out & fall. No warning. I have since given it up & feel a lot better.

It could depend on the thc and cbd content for each individual. What works for one may not work for another. It could be like "finding your brand" to smoke.

Hi, Jack. I suffer from anxiety, depression, and ADD. I am unable to take traditional meds because they make me worse. Medicinal pot has literally saved my life. I'm able to work, be a husband, be a dad.

So, for what it's worth, the "risks", in my case, were certainly worth the benefits.

The jury might still be out on this one, so maybe folks ought not to perpetuate the stigma.

So dont use pot to treat mental illness or psychoses I guess.

People with mental illnesses often have to experiment with different drugs and dosages, as they all dont work the same for everybody. Some people react very poorly to even the standard drugs.

Probably the same for pot.
