New York governor signs bill decriminalizing marijuana use | TheHill

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) on Monday signed a bill decriminalizing the use of marijuana in the state and expunge the records of some people convicted on cannabis-related charges.

"Communities of color have been disproportionately impacted by laws governing marijuana for far too long, and today we are ending this injustice once and for all," Cuomo said in a statement.

It's getting closer to full nationwide legalization. Wish I lived back in Manhattan in the late '60s. Used to smell pot smoke while walking to Central Park down my street.

Now let's see the state legislature pass a bill for licensing sale. No more excuses.

Would that make all of New England, at that point? Or has PA still not got on board?

I think medical pot is available in PA but I live here & I'm not aware of any talk about it. The houses in my 'hood are close together (quarter acre lots) & are inhabited by mostly elderly folks that might need pot, but I've never detected the characteristic odor of the smoke.

Pot is available in PA but only if you have a condition or disease that qualifies: AIDS, ALS, Turrett's Syndrome, cancer, etc. Pretty heavy stuff. But on the list of approved physicians is a psychiatrist who I know who is a quack & who will prescribe almost any drug you ask for.

Its literally called NEW York. How is it not NEW England?

Originally it was New Amsterdam, Dutch. New England is composed of Maine (not part of the 13 colonies), Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire and Connecticut. Grammar School geography. The middle states New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware, the balance of the 13 colonies the southern states.

New England was a map designation per the English Royal Patents prior to the acquisition of NY. (note: English, not British, which came later) Maine was originally a French and Portuguese claim.

I always sucked at geography.

They recently added anxiety to the list.

I've changed my mind about Mary J legalization.

At first I was only for it for medical reasons, but I can see the logic in allowing a complete legalization. As long as it is under gov't oversight and they treat driving while high the same way they do with drunk driving.

So now it is legal to be a total pot head in New York. I am so glad i don't live in New York.

Ya personal liberty is just so terrible isin't it? Lets have the government kick down peoples door and lock them in cages just because you hold some personal disdain for it. Small government indeed....

The driving thing is going to he interesting. They are working on "high now", as opposed to "high sometime in the past month". But "high" and "imparied" is where the sticky is.

Because multiple studies, conducted by the government, have determined that regular users, consuming an amount that does impair someone who doesn't, perform behind the wheel in a manner statistically indistinguishable from the "sober" population. They don't have a full explanation, but posit that the inhibitory nature of the drug makes them more conscious of how they're driving and over time they develop better driving habits.

Now I never said I was against legalization of drugs, I actually am for it. I see nothing wrong with legalization of pot, I just don't like to be around pot heads I can't stand the smell of them and I have never smoked pot or done any illegal drugs in my life. I see nothing wrong with legalization of pot or drugs, just from personal experience not the kind of people I really care for.
