Teen odds of using marijuana dip when states legalize recreational use

The new results echo a study showing a decline in teen use after sales of recreational pot began in 2014 in Washington state.

New research suggests legalizing recreational marijuana for U.S. adults in some states may have slightly reduced teens' odds of using pot.

One reason may be that it's harder and costlier for teens to buy marijuana from licensed dispensaries than from dealers, said lead author Mark Anderson, a health economist at Montana State University.

This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I think this would be a boom time for dealers if you're going to give the teens a hard time trying to get around legal restrictions.

I suspect there are other influencers to this outcome, like something being legal having less stigmatism on use. And that somewhat explains the disparity between when ‘medical’ is approved vs. ‘recreational’ in terms of what is needed to gain access to the product and arguably why.

We have a long way to go in really seeing the impact, but all of the scare predictions from social conservatism so far have been completely inaccurate.

And will continue to be skewed negatively by any group that wishes to find a negative conclusion. I'll tell ya the impact after over fifty years of smoking cannabis, it gives one a nice feeling. No hangover the next day, no withdrawal like some folks claim, doesn't make you miss work, doesn't want to make ya fight, steal or kill. We need as a society to seriously study this wonder plant and start to find out how it is capable of helping humanity.

It makes sense. The same general trend was discovered in Portugal (20?) years ago when they did the same thing.

Some say it is because the "forbidden fruit" has been removed, ending the syndrome.
