Gov. Phil Murphy and fellow Democratic leaders in New Jersey announced Tuesday they have reached a deal to legalize recreational marijuana and expunge low-level pot offenses.

Sounds like a progressive move in one of our most densely populated states. Big $$$ from legalized pot, not only for the state.

I am looking forward to vacationing in Cape May & hope this gets implemented soon. Cape May would be a big market during te vacation season.

That seems like an excessive tax, I can see it leading to a continuation of black market weed...

Besides the price, dealers offer a variety of other drugs like 'shrooms, heroin, blotter (LSD-25), etc.

I think it's cute you thought you needed to tell me what blotter is.

In the days of my misspent youth, I was quit the connoisseur and considered it my personal mission to rid the earth lysergic acid diethylamide one dose ( or many more) at a time...

That is the only way it is actually a gateway drug, when illegal it requires you to associate with criminals...

Having it illegal in the next state over guarantees that in any case, but yes the state are awfully greedy with their sin taxes.

Worse to me is the way they try to manipulate the market to give advantages to their friend who want to dominate the trade.

CA went way overboard with this, to the point that 90%+ of pot shops aren't properly licensed. CA is much better at making laws up than enforcing them.

Yeah, I agree as well. If it becomes cost prohibitive then the illegal variety will still be the better option. I also remember reading that towns have the option of not participating, which will create pockets all over the state where the legalization won't apply.

It's a cute town. I go to Wildwood Crest every year and head down to Cape May to walk around the town and shop/eat. I take my bicycle on vacation as well and do wish there were better routes to get into the town itself via bicycle. I usually ride north to Ocean City or Atlantic City because it's much more cyclist friendly.

As for the legalization, it would make for a more "relaxing" time for sure.

What this amounts to is the state(s) have decided to capitalize on a substance that is still illegal. What needs to happen is Congress needs to be pressured to address a failed law.

$42 an ounce tax is prohibitive itself, it is excessive in the real world, and will ruin the market, forcing buyers to go out of state or black market.

Some tax is fair, but this one is not.
