New Mexico moves toward legalizing recreational marijuana

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — New Mexico took a step toward legalizing recreational marijuana when its House approved a bill that would allow state-run stores and require customers to carry a receipt with their cannabis or face penalties.

The measure, narrowly approved Thursday following a late-night debate, mixes major provisions of a Republican-backed Senate bill that emphasizes aggressive regulation with a draft by Democrats concerned about the U.S. war on drugs.

Funny that it is the Repubs pushing this & the Dems are worried about the war on drugs, which we lost years ago but haven't admitted it to ourselves.

Looks like a good start.
As for the 'war on drugs', any politician who uses those words today needs to be rode out of town on a rail. Tarred and feathered.

Interesting.

Arizona, which has had medicinal MJ for years now (thanks to a citizens' initiative) will soon be almost surrounded by recreational states. Arizona came very close passing a recreational use law via citizen's initiative last year. It was narrowly defeated due to a massive influx of mystery dark money. Dark money rules Arizona.

It will be interesting to see what happens in Arizona once NM goes recreational and Arizona is surrounded, except for Utah, which is now a medicinal MJ state. Hell, when the wind is right, just sitting outside, the entire state of Arizona might be able to catch a buzz from California, Nevada, or New Mexico. ;) Then there's the Mexican State of Sonora on our southern border.

As someone in Arizona i can tell you that a good portion of that dark money came from a fentynal manufacturing company called insys therapeutics. They funneled $500000 into an advertising campaign which included false claims about the results of legalization in Colorado. It got the the point where CO lawmakers actually asked that the anti pot group running these ads to stop because they were so missrepresentitive of what was going on up there. Then later this same company came out with it's own synthetic marijuana product. The corruption on this is real.
