Local officials in New York's Long Island say they have removed unauthorised vending machines dispensing drug paraphernalia.

The machines allegedly contained glass pipes and filters intended for smoking crack cocaine disguised as pens.

The officials said the machines were embedded in concrete without permission in public locations.

Where there is a demand, someone will step up to fill it.

That'll teach 'em. Get authorization first. Then install your drug paraphernalia dispensers.

Big Pharm hates competition.

Yeah. This was in New York. All they had to do was pay the proper taxes and they could have installed heroin injecting machines and no one would have cared.

Damns straight. They have a subway system to rebuild.

In almost any city, or even small towns, you can walk into any number of gas station convenience stores and you'll see display shelves of "glass tobacco pipes" and on an adjacent shelf, "copper pot scrubbers" (also known as "Chore Boy Pads")
The so called "pipes" sometimes contain a "cute" little cloth or plastic rose as a decoration, a sham attempt to make it appear that it's really just a harmless rose inside a glass tube. How charming...

And the Chore Boy Pads also appear equally harmless.

Let's put the two together for you:

That's a wad of ripped up Chore Boy stuffed into the "love rose" glass tube.
Now all you have to do is drop your little crack rock in and light it up, and you're on your way to ruining your life.

And all the tools of the trade are probably right at your corner store.
If your local gas station isn't selling that crap, that's a business owner who really cares about his community.

Cracked Magazine - no - they do not sell crack, they specialize in stories that normally crack you up.

Wow! I'm just blown away (pun) when I see stuff like this. Now and forever more, whenever I go into a convenience store, I'll be looking for those rose tubes.

When I GO into a place and see the little love roses and the Chore Boy I call them out on it.
I don't get pissy, I don't start any crap...I just ask them if their store has ever been robbed or if there's ever been any violence or scary drug tussles.
More often than not - YES...they have been robbed or something mentioned above.

Something like this:

"Yeah? Really? This crap right here is a BIG REASON WHY you've been robbed. You are selling the kind of stuff that drug addicts and drug dealers NEED to do their business, so you might want to consider the fact that you're inviting addicts and criminals INTO your place of business.
If you STOP selling this stuff, they will go away. If you KEEP selling this stuff, it is only a question of time before something really terrible happens.
Selling this stuff is a threat to YOUR safety, the safety of all your employees and the safety of your customers."

Something like this:

I don’t know. Seems like the addict would be less likely to rob the place where they buy their supplies. ;)

You're thinking too logically, sorry Bob.

"Give me everything in the register, a flat of those Bic lighters, and I'll be taking a flat of those glass stems and this big box of Chore Boy...empty the damn register now, BITCH."

They aren't concerned about the probability that they might be there again when they run out of supplies.

Something like this:

Good for you!
They'd buy their drug paraphernalia and come back the same night to rob them. I wouldn't put it past a desperate addict to do this.

The gas station on the corner where I often go in the mornings to get a coffee and a snack or breakfast hasn't kicked out the punk that has stolen 24 packs of beer from them on several occasions, at least not yet anyway.
I know, it doesn't make sense....if it was my gas station they'd be 86-ed permanently.
