Sessions may end Obama era policy that allows for legalization of pot

This administration has officially pissed Ron Paul off to the point he's praising Obama:

The bittersweet agony of witnessing a system I've always known in my heart was corrupt show its true ass while simultaneously living with the anxiety that I was right and secretly not wanting to be.

Ron Paul is a Goldwater Republican. His philosophy is closer to Obama than to Trump.

Sessions is sworn to uphold the law. The law prohibits pot sales. You want to change the law, call your Congress critter.

The law has no legitimacy, if one is concerned with the Supreme Law of the Land. The federal government has no authority to tell the citizen what he may or may not ingest.

If you think otherwise, please show me that part of the USC that confers such a power on the government.

I don't disagree. Then change the law. As of now pot is illegal in the US. Call your Congresscritters. Tell them to grow a pair and amend the law.

I'm curious, though, do you believe the same logic should apply to health care, cigs, alcohol, sugar?

I've spent enough time over 50 years pleading with my congresscritters to obey the law. It's a waste of time.

In the meantime, as noted in an early SCOTUS decision that escapes me at the moment, I have no obligation to obey an illegitimate law. Neither do you, and neither does California or Colorado.

First you have to show the law is illegitimate, or you have no defense.

But it begs the question. Does everybody get one freebee they don't have to obey? Can I change my freebee to suit the immediate situation? What about those I mentioned?

Any person is free to break any law he wishes, any time he wishes, BUT he must accept that he might be caught and punished. That is pretty much what about 75% of drivers on US interstates do, as most vehicles are 10 over the posted speed limit, or more. So it's not really a 'freebee', as it is a calculated gamble.

Those elected to federal office cannot or will not obey their oath of office. Their passage of offending legislation is habit for them. Even though the USA Patriot Act slams the Fourth Amendment, and even though a few random court decisions have slammed the USAPA, it is still renewed every few years. Those sort of issues are what I futilely communicate with my elected officials about. Nothing has changed, and nothing will.

Regarding this issue of pot's legal status, and because you are a reasonable poster, I would ask you the same question that others cannot or will not attempt to answer: where in the US Constitution is the federal government empowered to tell the citizen what substances he may or may not put into his body? :peace

You will not be able to show that, and that means I have proved that the drug prohibition is illegitimate.

Thanks for the reasonable poster statement. Some would say otherwise.

In answer to your question, it doesn't. That's always been my position. Federal Constitutional obligations are fighting the wars, protecting the borders, and facilitating interstate travel and commerce. Along with that feds have the right to collect enough, but only enough, taxes to pay for their obligations. All the rest shall accrue to the states.

To clarify, I think the law needs to be changed. Along with several others. Obamacare. Any redistribution schemes. Education, to name a few.

AP NewsBreak: US to end policy that let legal pot flourish

Well, maybe. We should find out tomorrow for sure:

Comparable to heroin, the drug that currently kills more Americans than traffic accidents? That must be a bit difficult to support. Also difficult to support: outlawing pot actually keeps people from smoking pot. All it does is drive the market underground and line the pockets of the drug dealers and gangsters.

So much for state's rights.

Sessions and Mattis will need to deploy the military and send tanks if they hope to make any difference in CO. Not only is this an affront to states' rights (typical Republicans), but our coffers are overflowing with cannabis taxes and tourism revenue. If anything matters more to politicians than feigned morality, it's money. Pot isn't going anywhere.

That's what you get when you let a community organizer rule with a pen and phone.
He would have been better off had he studied what the job of the 3 branches are.
"... The Obama administration back in 2013 announced via a memo ..."

Now we have DACA and marijuana problems because of Obama's memos.

What "marijuana problems" do we have? Also, you might be aware that the Dreamers were in the country before President Obama addressed that problem. The current president also supports DACA.

What happened to states rights?

That only applies to situations that suit Republicans. Same sex marriage? Leave it up to the discriminating states. Decriminalize cannabis? Activate the might of the federal government. I think Sessions overplayed his hand here.

Oh but I keep hearing conservatives saying, "But Trump hasn't really DONE ANYTHING YET, what's the PROBLEM?"
Yeah, right.
The time for talking to these people is over, wait till November when we sweep all of you out of Congress and start removing your hero reality TEE VEE prezzy-dint.
We probably won't even have to, because once he doesn't have his tri-fecta majority, he will want to take his ball, go home and sulk.
He will QUIT, and so will his religious whackjob Veep.

"You can't stop what's coming."

It really bothers me how Sessions could say good people don't smoke marijuana. Firstly go do a google search on people who do do marijuana. Some of the richest, some of the most talented people going back in time have used marijuana at some point. Why is marijuana Illegal? Exactly an 80 year old law based on lies and bigotry. The people are, the people are, the people are......That is correct the people are finding benefit from Marijuana. Democracy is sometimes referred to as "rule of the majority" This being said, The federal government is failing to see what the majority of the people want. The states are voting it into law, because government fails to do its job. It is esimated that over 60% are for some form of legalization. Yet the the Gov still and they know better, keep it right there next to LSD and Herion. There is not even any news that they are looking it as far as scheduling. Any argument you have falls on deaf ears while tobacco and alcohol are the top contributors to death in this country in cancer and heart disease.

Many have known for years that the drug prohibition is legally and morally and intellectually bankrupt and illegitimate. That a career politician from Alabama would support the status quo is no surprise.

Nope we simply have no will to combat the demand begets supply paradigm. The only way to have any chance of that is to go after users - reduce demand.
