Cannabis users are more likely to commit violent crime, pioneering research has shown. It warned those who smoke the drug regularly run an increased risk of using violence against others.
The project is the first to demonstrate that cannabis is not only linked with violent crime but is the cause.
Violent incidents monitored by the study based on the lives of more than 1,100 American psychiatric patients included assaults, attacks with weapons and rapes.

Well, who'd of known this based on the pro-MJ BS out there.

It’s always mellowed me out. I remember the old Bill Cosby line: Drug user: It enhances my personality. Bill Cosby: What if you are an asshole?

I didn't read the study yet, but if this was a study of psychiatric patients, how do we know it's the weed that caused them to be violent? On its surface, it sounds a little bogus.

yep, when i am stoned, any junk food in the vicinity is about to get hurt

So they only studied people who were already mentally ill, ignored the black market affect, there's no source provided, and it's endorsed by no one except a hyper-partisan think tank... and I'm supposed to take it seriously?

The Daily Fail flunks out of school yet again.

Smoke some "gorilla glue" and then just try to get violent, won't happen.

You gotta love the source "Pioneering research shows......."LOL. I think the reporter was stoned when he wrote this.

Geez this got picked apart fast.

I don't even smoke the Devil's Lettuce but what's with all the hate about it?

Definitely bogus. Five researchers from unnamed institutes, "The latest study by five researchers from institutes based in Montreal, Canada, examined the lives of 1,136 men and women who were patients at psychiatric hospitals in Missouri, Pittsburgh and Massachusetts.
Records were gathered from interviews carried out every ten weeks for a year after their discharge."

... interviewed psych patients. That's not science. That's not even a study.

Conservatives just love their laws. If you should do something, there needs to be a law that you must. If you shouldn't, we need a law that you can't.
Conservatives think you can design society through legislation and the drug laws are the brightest example of that.

What is fun is watching that movie stoned. :)

i haven't had marijuana in years. i think that the last program i watched on weed was a documentary about tugboats. it was utterly fascinating.

So you're saying there's one study claiming that pot causes violence? Truly unreal. One study proves nothing. Bet you don't have a second or third study. If so, where?

Actually, DD - I would beg to differ. To assume that smoking a fatty will make people violent just leads me to believe that the writer of this article has never, in fact, smoked a fatty. When I used to smoke, all it made me want to do was eat too much and lay on the sofa staring at the ceiling fan.

I would totally have to question methodology. Did they consider in states where marijuana is legal that opioid addiction is down and so is alcoholism? You must be Pro alcohol and opioids.

The methodology is insane, literally insane

They studied mental patients to make their determination

We could equally study that chocolate chip cookies cure depression because it makes them feel better.

There are few studies on pot and most of them say it's good. If you are drunk driving accidents, fewer suicides from depression. It may even be a cure for alcoholism. There is not enough science on weed. So you have to consider the o opinions of the millions of people who smoke it. The same people again smoking pot are going to be people that are for global warming, strip mining, fracking, free market so free that forget about people that have to work it.

The writer has put himself in good company.
