So last Nov. over 70% of We the People voted to legalize medical MJ. Given the right wing makeup of the government here, I knew something like this was coming, but I didn't expect it to be this insane. Freedom and Individual Liberty, my ass.:soap

This is an email from the Marijuana Policy Project:

MPP State Policy Alert
Florida House subcommittee passes restrictive bill
Make your voice heard!
Tell your legislator to oppose HB 1397.
TAKE ACTION

By a 14-1 vote, the House Health Quality subcommittee approved a measure that would limit how Florida patients can use medical marijuana.

Not only would patients be prohibited from smoking medical marijuana, but they would also be barred from buying more than a 90-day supply. Edibles would be outlawed, and vaping would only be allowed for terminal patients. However, a limitation on types of ingestion is not the only issue within HB 1397.

The bill would severely curtail the market for medical marijuana. Only seven dispensaries would serve the entire state until 200,000 patients register. Only after the threshold number of patients is met would five additional treatment centers be permitted. While patients would be required to obtain a medical marijuana card, the structure of maintaining the medical card could be problematic. If a patient is “cured” or is charged with a drug offense, the medical card can be revoked.

In November, Florida voters unambiguously approved a constitutional amendment to expand the use of medical marijuana in Florida. Simply put, HB 1397 is too restrictive and is contradictory to the desire of 71% of Floridians.

While the bill still needs approval from two other House committees before heading to the floor for a full vote, now is the time to tell your representative to oppose this unduly burdensome implementation of Amendment 2!

Sincerely,

Florida is home to liquor distillers and has one hell of a lot of older people living there who take meds. The alcohol industry and big Pharma own your state legislature where medicinal weed is concerned. Heaven only knows how much dark money is spent buying politicians.

Blowback is coming. Not on just this issue but on other issues and in other states as well. People are beginning to realize that the GOP is all about control. They can and do pimp their bills as for the People. Bull feces! Follow the money. Follow the money to the power. Citizens come in last and they will soon be fed the hell up with GOP authoritarianism trickling down from national to state and local levels.

:eyeroll:

What the hell are you talking about? Medical MJ is a HUGE profit for "big pharma." They are going to sell the **** out of weed. Some people are just upset that they are going to treat it (legally) like any other drug. This is all crying over spilled milk. Besides.

Younger conservatives (like me) don't give a **** about pot. We have been forced to be around too many liberal pot heads to care lol.

Let's just sell Florida to Cuba or Venezuela and be done with it.

One of the most populous states and a crap ton of money is spent. I have a better idea...keep the carpet bagging assholes and old folks up north.

question:
why the objection of if a person is cured, the mj medical license may not be renewed? If "cured" there is no need for the medicine. Or is there a underlying tone to keep taking mj on a recreational basis disguised as a medical need.

Be careful what you wish for.... I live in southern Oregon first came medical then rec. Our area is overran with growers and pot heads now. I live in the rogue Valley ( about 200,000 people live here) there is over 4000 grows here in just the two counties now. Be careful what you wish for as the area is crawling with stinky growers and users everywhere now.....

Welcome to the 21st century. Where pot has absolutely 0 side effects (maybe) and nobody cares. If I had money...I would invest in the industry now. Besides...I can't walk outside in s college town without smelling skunks.

Wait! No? That can't be! People don't do that!

Seriously. I've noticed that there are some people who use weed to deal with "anxiety." The funny thing? Their anxiety never goes away.

It does the rest of the US a great favor by being what is arguable the country's great idiot magnet.

All those 'carpetbaggers' (LOL) and old folks deserve Florida, and Florida, America's limp phallus, deserves them.

Still, selling such a swamp of stupidity might prove a difficult task.

Aside from your opinion of people who use marijuana, can you point to some actual data that shows your state as being worse off for having legalized it? Show your work.

the war on pot is lost.

Yeah, I hope so.

I'm actually someone who could legitimately benefit from medical MJ.

A couple of facts. I'm libertarian when it comes to weed. ( I have no interest in using it myself)I have also made a ton of money hauling soil and bulk water to the grows and have been on many many grow sites. Weed was sold to the public for medical use ( rec came later) and there is use for medical. Many fell for the medical lie as the vast vast vast!!! Majority is not grow for medical ( only under the guise) and then put out on the black market ( over 90% has been reported many times in the news) I have spoke to many growers ( I delivered millions of gallons of water in the last few years) and most will admitt to this after you get to know them. ( again I don't care I'm libertarian) Now rec is legal to grow and the grows are exploding in the number and size. (I've been on grows with over 20,000 plants.) Now I'm telling you, most of the people are nice, many are as dumb as a box of rocks, most live like total pigs, ( most of the grows are a mess , some are very nice , but not many) All you see all over southern Oregon is grow sites everywhere ( you have to fence them and the fences are a total!!!!!! Mess everwhere so you can't miss the grows. ) most of the grows are a pig pen, most of the workers are dirty piggies, the clippers when they come to town in the fall are even bigger pigs living in more tents, vans, cars, beat up motor homes etc. If you like the smell of pot, good! Because everwhere you go you smell the grows, you smell the stinking workers in the stores, food places , hardware stores, etc etc etc. Now the plus side, property values sky rocketing, water delivery, soil delivery, hardware, well guys, electric, video security, etc etc all incredibly busy. Josephine County alone here has over 2600 legal grows with who knows how many illegal ones. Be careful what you wish for it is not all positive. The part I hate the most is the stinky pot head pigs every where you go.. ( I don't put the normal guy who uses in the same category as pigs) The stinky pigs are the ones that have moved here to grow and produce the product.( there is plates from all 50 states on cars at these grows) be carefull it's changed the class of people here.....

I have no objection to that aspect of the bill, in fact, I didn't even notice it. The original proposal had very strict limitations as to what kinds of medical problems qualified. "I hurt my back", or "I have a headache" would not qualify. It's not like doctors would be able to open up shops and sell permits. It would be regulated like narcotics. I have to go to the doc every 30 days and submit to random piss testing for that.

Not facts, just your anecdotal story with no backing up.

If they are idiots, they won't last long as farmers because they won't be able to survive in the marketplace.

Can you ever make a comment on an issue that isn't a simplistic "liberals bad" screed?

Its no way to debate.

Aside from your personal attack, I was just pointing out that you are only stating your anecdotal opinion. I asked you to produce some statistics or reports that back up your opinion, and you didn't do it. I'm fine with your opinion, but don't go stating it as if it is the only facts.

First of all, debate does not mean calling someone full of *** when you disagree with them, you have done this three times. Calm down.

Second, you are just pushing your opinion, that is fine, but you aren't producing any actual factual data, just your bias against growers. The irony is, you posted an op-ed. :lamo
