The Justice Department may step up enforcement of federal marijuana laws in states that have voted to legalize its recreational use, according to White House press secretary Sean Spicer.

"I do believe think you'll see greater enforcement of it," Spicer said, during his daily press briefing. He added that the Department of Justice will be looking into the issue further.

Feb 12, 2016 - Trump on O'Reilly
Bill O’Reilly said legalized marijuana is a $1 billion industry in Colorado and claimed all the “dealers” and “pushers” are going there to “load up on it” and then “zoom around the country selling it.” He then asked Trump if it concerns him, to which Trump responded: “That’s a real problem.”

O’Reilly asked Trump what he would do about it, and Trump responded: “There is another problem. In Colorado, the book isn’t written on it yet, but there is a lot of difficulty in terms of illness and what’s going on with the brain and the mind and what it’s doing. So, you know, it’s coming out probably over the next year or so. It’s going to come out.”

O’Reilly continued to ask what Trump would do about it, and Trump responded: “I would really want to think about that one, Bill. Because in some ways I think it’s good and in other ways it’s bad. I do want to see what the medical effects are. I have to see what the medical effects are and, by the way — medical marijuana, medical? I’m in favor of it a hundred percent. But what you are talking about, perhaps not. It’s causing a lot of problems out there.

O’Reilly then called medical marijuana a “ruse,” to which Trump responded: “But I know people that have serious problems and they did that they really — it really does help them.” The O’Reilly Factor, February 12, 2016

I really hope they fix the federal law and allow these states and people to govern themselves.

Another quote.

“In terms of marijuana and legalization, I think that should be a state issue, state-by-state. … Marijuana is such a big thing. I think medical should happen — right? Don’t we agree? I think so. And then I really believe we should leave it up to the states.” Washington Post, October 29, 2015

Come on Donald. You were for it in 1990. You were for it in 2015. Don't make this deal. It is super lucrative. Big League.

I hope that this doesn't happen.

Trump is apparently supposed to be for State's rights, so if he were to be consistent, he won't try and go after recreational marijuana in the states that have already legalized it. Plus, doing that would just tank his favorability ratings even further.

I was already worried about this possibly happening, and it looks like that may have been justified.

If states want to be stupid and legalize pot they should be allowed to without interferance from the federal government

But dont allow drug smugglers to bring in dope from outside America

I'm really surprised Trump is looking to crack down on recreational marijuana use. That's disappointing. I don't use it myself, but I think YOU should be able to. Illinois just legalized medical MJ. The form you sign when you enter the always-locked dispensary and purchase it reminds you that you are breaking Federal law.

If it were a perfect world and I were in charge, Congress itself would act and decriminalize it. There are SO much bigger fish to fry.

We're just not used to politicians moving so quickly on their agenda. I wish there was a website that listed his campaign promises because it's pretty obvious to me he's working down a list and plans to move on all of it.

Good point! Buy American! ;) ;)

Well that should be part of the regulations. It isn't like we don't have regulations for other crops in America. How or why would it be different for Pot?

Not only that but why make the lowest humans in the gene pool rich with American dollars?

We intend to protect our borders and not allow dope smugglers to operate freely

Make it a state decision if california wants to grow pot

If it works for them other states may follow or not

Let the people of each state decide

If Trump has any friends in the pharmaceutical industry then he will stop caring about "state's rights" and legalized marijuana will be screwed.

I think I need to get a medical card.

Its some level of protection.

Here is what I would do:

1. Punish states for violating federal law.
2. Legalize pot.

If one of his arguments for enforcing federal immigration law is because it's the law then he can't just ignore states violating laws on pot.

2. Legalize pot.

The punishment would be simple. Since the taxes earned from the sale of pot was illegally obtained they will be required to give up the same amount to the federal government.

O'Reily is talking out his a** with this: [Bill O’Reilly said legalized marijuana is a $1 billion industry in Colorado and claimed all the “dealers” and “pushers” are going there to “load up on it” and then “zoom around the country selling it.” He then asked Trump if it concerns him, to which Trump responded: “That’s a real problem.”]

I don't doubt Trump/Sessions will double down on the massive failure of prohibition. It will continue to fail and cost us all.

Yes they can. Every DOJ has to pick its priorities. That's a rope they'd be stupid to pee up, but knowing their mindset.

Yeah, the president can. Andrew Jackson proved it.

At least in theory, and in the context of how the federal government and its founding document were created, checking out the Tenth Amendment, states and people already do govern themselves.

The problem is that over the years the federal government has usurped power at every opportunity, and the average American today has been conditioned to believe that it should be like that.

Conditioned through relentless propaganda and societal communication restrictions which had been imposed by the elites....till Trump blew up the con.

And I mean almost literally that one man with an idea and enough money on his own to be allowed to spread it did it.

Yes, but....

But by way of the Flynn fiasco, Trump has been brought to heel by the Deep State. If Trump were "doing the right thing" and/or "speaking truth to power", he would have not accepted Flynn's resignation, noting that Flynn committed no crime.

No, Flynn did himself in as he usually does, by playing cowboy. In the process he became ineffective, which in Trumps world equals useless, dead wood to be off-loaded.

You think that Deep State has won? Trump is just getting started. When Bannon said yesterday I think it was that one of the three pillars of the administrations agenda is to dismantle the "Administrative State" he was in part talking about Deep State.

And as we all know Trump is a pit bull when he is sure that he is right, he does not walk away from fights, and he rarely breaks off from fights no matter how rough they get untlll either he wins or he can not fight any longer.

Trump is but a deranged loose cannon, a demagogue. I'm hoping for the best, but it's not looking good.

So much for small government and state's rights.

Not that I ever believed any of the Republicans actually mean it. When they say it what they mean is that they don't want government should be smaller but only to the extent that it being smaller serves their constituents interests (and I'm not even entirely sure about that, since they never try to pass legislation with a chance of getting through that would shrink government. It's either Paul Ryan show-budgets or nothing).

So, of course, when Trump appoints a lying drug warrior, government can be as "big" as it wants about pot, of all things.
