Trump's Pick for Attorney General Will Likely Crack Down on Cannabis

Why do you want to take this discussion so far afield? Are you out of ideas re. the OP? One more time.

You're wrong on both counts.

Arizona did not overturn immigration laws. The borders are a federal issue. The issue was the feds refusing to enforce their laws. Arizona simply authorized their LEO to enforce federal laws on a state basis.

There are no federal laws making prostitution illegal. The matter is left up to the states. Nevada makes prostitution legal. The other 49 do not.

Neither has anything to do with Trump's picks or Cannabis.

No, you're wrong on both counts.

"An Arizona law providing authority for local law enforcement to enforce immigration law violated the enumerated powers of Congress and is pre-empted by federal statute. Arizona law enforcement may inquire about a resident's legal status during lawful encounters, but may not implement its own immigration rules. Ninth Circuit affirmed and reversed in part."

Obviously, this was a conflict between federal and state laws. The state mostly lost the conflict.

"It is named after Congressman James Robert Mann of Illinois, and in its original form made it a felony to engage in interstate or foreign commerce transport of "any woman or girl for the purpose of prostitution or debauchery, or for any other immoral purpose"."

The only federal law we have claims that it's illegal across state lines. Yet we let Nevada operate brothels.

Consider that we've reduced tobacco and alcohol consumption significantly in the last few decades without having to prosecute millions or enrich a huge underground market.

If the goal is to reduce consumption shouldn't we look at what actually works?

The cannabis issue will more than likely be Trumps first State Rights issue to tackle, or ignore as Obama has done. The horse (marijuana reform) is well and truly out of the stable in 7 states, one being my home state of Mass. Lets just see if Trump will respect the voters decision in these 7 States, considering the GOP's hard ass line on this issue, Im not holding my breath.

So I was reading this thread (for other reasons) and what jumped out at me was a large number of people speculating that federal enforcement of marijuana laws would not be a Trump priority. Fast forward a few months and we have Sessions as AG and it is being put back on a front burner. So much for that, I guess.
