A man armed with a machete and a bag full of knives seriously injured a Kentucky student Friday morning in a politically motivated attack at a campus coffee shop.

The assailant, whose name has not been released, brought weapons into Jazzman’s Cafe at Transylvania University in Lexington, where he made a bizarre proclamation and then asked other customers about their political affiliation, reported the Lexington Herald-Leader.

“The day of reckoning is here,” the man said, according to witnesses.

He then approached two women at the café.

“He asked the first girl if she was a Democrat or a Republican, she said Republican, (and) he said okay, then asked some other girl,” said witness Michael Soder. “By that time, some of my friends were running out and yelling for us to leave, and I tried to stay behind to see if — I mean I didn’t know what to do, I wanted to help, but I knew I should get out of there.”

Another witness shared a similar account.

“He asked somebody what their political affiliation was, they said ‘Republican,’ and the guy said, ‘You are safe,’ and then I realized what was going on and started getting people out,” said witness Tristan Reynolds.

The assailant, who police said was a former student, then pulled out a machete and attacked a woman in the café.

A man has been arrested after a machete attack on Transylvania University’s campus that sent one woman to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

Mitchell W. Adkins, 19, of Cincinnati has been charged with first-degree assault, fourth-degree assault and three counts of wanton endangerment, according to police.

The attacker walked into a coffee shop inside the Glenn Building on Friday morning, asked people their political affiliation, then went on the attack, one witness said.

Adkins, thought to be a former Transylvania student, was armed with a machete and knives, Lexington Police Chief Mark Barnard said. The various weapons were in a bag, police said later. Adkins made verbal threats to students and staff in the building and struck two women, according to police.

Yep. Plenty of wackos. They often use religion or politics as a point of fixation. But the problem is the crazy.

First of all, I'm glad nobody was killed.

Second, this man does not speak for most Republicans. But there are a few unhinged people out there, and I worry that extremist media enables people to commit acts such as these. I would not be surprised if he wasn't an Infowars fan.

    OK.....

So why is that NEVER a comment you would make in the Europe forum when similar crazies attack people and are found to be crazy?

Does the crazy only count as long as they aren't muslims?

Do Republicans, or right wingers in Europe, attack or kill people in Europe on a weekly or monthly basis? Do Muslims?

You really want to compare mass killings between Europe and America?

And the point was "crazies" - you made that Republicans, right wingers or muslims.

Of course not. But damn, society has been so coarsened lately.
