So if you were president and were told Russia had launched its full arsenal , do you ???

A) retaliate , in effect ending human civilization. Maybe even contributing to our extinction??

B) decide not to retaliate, so now everyone will speak Russian, but the human race/civilization survives???

No matter how we pretty it up, that is the choice the person retaliating faces.. no matter if it is the US or Russia making the decision whether or not we will retaliate.

I kinda think the way to have your cake and eat it too, would be to claim you would retaliate, but never do it... basically the button wouldn’t actually be hooked up..

Sure warfare is always lose, lose, but with the stakes being extinction.... damn.

Putin is developing a "doomsday machine" so he can extort the world. That pretty well makes this a moot point.

What. I was in Jr high our school system got its first computer.

It was basically a giant typewriter, that was fed by a box of paper from underneath, everything was on paper. We had to log I with a phone receiver (for those too young to remember look it up, they did exist) in a cradle.

We could log time on it after school.

This was In the 70s during the cold war and there was a game on it called failsafe.

It was almost exactly as you described. Both countries mistakenly thought the otber was attacking.

You had had several different options to choose from.

I always managed to destroy the planet.

We had not yet studied diplomacy...

Russia is the definition of a paper tiger and the majority of Americans agree.

Obama was right. Why are we talking about Russia? The Cold War has been over for a long time.

They are not a major geopolitical threat.

That is ridiculous...

We already have doomsday machines.. nukes can already turn the planet to glass and we have more than enough already on the shelves..

The is like someone threatening you with serving an extra life sentence without parole when your already serving one..

So what putin is gonna day “ I know ya’ll could destroy the planet, but I could destroy two planets!!! That’s not a real threat..

I think planning or preventing for a nuclear exchange is literally the most important job for humanity..

In the scope of centuries. There is no way we keep rolling the dice with a dozen nuclear powers all changing administrations every few years...

Sooner or later he government of some nuclear power will get ousted and launch on their way out.

Re: If you were president and were told Russia had launched it’s nukes... do you???

Yeah and we're worried about Kim's nuke's, and Iran's nuclear program...

We are worried about everyone’s nukes because every world power that has them is a brand new roll of the dice every time they change administrations...

Just statistically, how long till a major power gets a hitler???

Or worse, 2 hitlers at once!??

Over the course of centuries I think it is a mathematical certainty..

And every new nuclear power is another pair of dice waiting to crap out ever new administration..

This is about nuclear weapon/War...

In a land and sea battle, sure Russia’s military wouldn’t last 6 months vs the US... no 3 countries combined would...

But they got plenty enough nukes to kill off the species..

The only country that has attacked another country with nuclear weapons is the United States, not Russia.

Yep, back when ending wars quickly was seen as the best idea.

The point is that Putin has made the decision that destroying the entire planet is what he intends to do if he does not get what he wants. Think about that for a moment.

Putin is more stable than Trump. Trump is more likely to use nuclear weapons on "X" country than Putin.

Re: If you were president and were told Russia had launched it’s nukes... do you???

You'd have to retaliate with everything you have.

That's the only way the current peace is maintained, the threat of total destruction.

Re: If you were president and were told Russia had launched it’s nukes... do you???

Yeah and we're worried about Kim's nuke's, and Iran's nuclear program...

Or China. You name it Trump wants us to worry about every other country but Russia. They are by far our #1 adversary and Putin has pledged to destroy us.

Trump takes his orders from Putin and launching our nukes is not one of them.

Do you have any proof of this absolutely absurd statement?

Re: If you were president and were told Russia had launched it’s nukes... do you???

Trump actions are the proof. You know it too but don't care. Let's face it you like Putin as much as Trump.

After a slow start, Trump has affected almost every facet of U.S. foreign policy. And the story to date is not an inspiring one. Trump has personalized, privatized, and deinstitutionalized foreign policy to the detriment of the national interest. That trend has accelerated in recent months, culminating in two disastrous missteps vis-à-vis Ukraine and Syria. In the process, the American public has suffered, U.S. allies have lost, and U.S. adversaries have gained—none more so than Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump’s Privatized Foreign Policy Is a Boon for Russia

Re: If you were president and were told Russia had launched it’s nukes... do you???

Did Trump have his honeymoon in Russia?

No but all three of his wives have been from the region...

Re: If you were president and were told Russia had launched it’s nukes... do you???

Did Trump have his honeymoon in Russia?

Trump wants to build a Trump tower in Moscow with Putin's help of course.

Even more ridiculous...

All Putin has to do to end the world is launch the middles he had the day he took office..

The country firing first or retaliating is irrelevant...

Substitute the US firing first and put yourself in the Russian PM’s shoes... same difference..

They were like baby nukes.

Not even close... anything that targets a city, instead of a military target is too big..

If you really wanted to **** the planet, firing you full load at the middle east would be more effective. No oil ends civilization.
