This is completely hypothetical. However, if GOP Senators decided that Trump needed to be removed from office would the Democrats slow play it so that the new GOP nominee went hobbled into the November election or would the Democrats get articles of impeachment to the Senate with dispatch as part of some deal?

In that unlikely event, I expect the Dems would leap on the chance to brand Trump as the first/only President ever removed from office via impeachment.

The aftermath of a successful removal seems to me as good or better than Trump's non-stop self-incrimination for 2020.

Democrats heading to the Senate ------>>

Remember that under similar circumstances Gerald R. Ford came very close to being re-elected. Had he not pardoned Nixon, he would have won easily.

Dems can impeach Trump all they want but it'll go nowhere in the Senate. Then Trump will be reelected and Pubs will take back the House. Enjoy your 2020 I know I will.

I find the resignation scenario far mote likely than removal via impeachment anyhow.

I suppose anything is possible. Pence is a dud, but it's not as though the current crop of Dem candidates is impressive.

Slow playing it is the way to build up public support, which GOP senators need. If they want to ahead and convict him, the Dems would vote tomorrow.

Why do they need public support when they already have it?

If the GOP wanted to remove Trump, they would be going, "There's no time."

I have to admit that you're a whole lot smarter than I am. Over here in Texas, I have to guess at what's going on in Washington with all the agenda driven "news" being reported. The smoke is too thick to see through.

The GOP must be destroyed in order to rebuild it

Take a look at all the prominent, respected conservatives, many of them FORMER Republicans, who are saying this.
I realize that you and a lot of others like you are convinced that your lefty counterparts would like to see conservatism erased from the human race forever.

Sorry to burst your bubble but that is not actually the case for a lot of liberals.
Liberals need conservatives to keep them honest and conservatives need liberals to keep them from turning into goosestepping fanatics.
It's always been that way.

Pronouncing liberalism as a mental disorder, and then actually speaking those words with a serious tone, has damaged your side much more than it has ours. So what if we don't actually agree on everything, or even most things.
The ability to grant each side something, and the ability to hammer out compromise, especially under pressure, is a basic survival trait of the human race.

Again, to me, none of this is about Trump being a Republican.
I swear to you if the guy had run and won as a Democrat I doubt I would be a registered Democrat today and if I was, I'd be hiding my head and working to get rid of that clown. It would be embarrassing to have him as a Democrat.

It's real cute to see Larry Flynt and Pat Paulsen running for President, it's laughable to see Lyndon LaRouche throwing his hat in the ring, but in reality only kooks actually THINK these people could do the job.
That is what I thought of Trump DECADES ago!

I lumped the guy in with Lyndon and Larry.
And everything I imagined has come to pass, and more.
What angers me about Republicans is that they bought his BS hook, line and sinker, that's all.
To me, he's still an idiot just like he was back when he had a TV show, even before that when he was just a mobbed up real estate huckster.

It's always been that way.
So yeah, NO SLOW WALK, we just need to get rid of him.

Yeah, I'd be bummed out if another Republican won the White House in 2020.
Big deal, I'd be bummed out, but I think we would survive.
I have very serious doubts about it happening but it is possible.

Just don't let it be Trump.

I have relatives in Texas (Houston area) who fled the Peoples Republic of California. They've been there a few years now and report all's well.

That is quite a fantasy. It has very little foundation in reality, but it sure is entertaining.

Your party is not above putting up Queen Hillary as their nominee. Think it over and let me know if you believe she could be a winner the third time around.

The fantasies never quite, do they. Clinton is not running again. Only in the world of political porn do they feed you such nonsense. Apparently you lack the discerning mind sufficient to see BS when its in front of you.

Meanwhile, let's check the Morning Consult polls....

Tracking Trump: The President’s Standing Across America

Let's see: 1) Trump is down by double digits in MN, MI, WI and IA (3 of those states he won last time); he is down by 5 points or more in PA and OH (which he won). He is down in FL, NC and AZ. How is that winning formula?

According to a recent Fox News poll, 51% of Americans want him impeached AND removed. How is that a winning formula?

Fox News Poll: Record support for Trump impeachment | Fox News

80% of Americans do not trust Donald Trump. How is that a winning formula?

Reuters Polling

55% of Americans think we are on the wrong track. I don't think that reflects well on leadership. How is that a winning formula?

According to even Rasmussen, in September, before the latest Ukraine scandal, 52% of Americans said they would not vote for Trump 2020. How is that a winning?

Since his bust of a honeymoon, Trump's approval rating has never been about 43%. How is that a winning formula?

No, instead of reading real news that would help you understand the political landscape, you are off reading smut that stimulates that unhealthy obsession too many have with Hillary. Sorry, but no real news organization would say that, because its fundamentally faux news. But, you seemingly bought it. I think you need to sharpen your discernment skills.
