If you think Trump won because he was popular and like, you'd be mistaken. Both candidates weren't liked at all. Only 38% of all Americans had a favorable view of Clinton, 58% unfavorable. Trump was a bit worse, 36% favorable, 60% unfavorable which probably accounts for Hillary winning the popular vote. Where this dislike really counted was among independents, they very much disliked Hillary more than Trump. 70% unfavorable for Hillary vs. 57% unfavorable for Trump. Hence Trump won the independent vote and the white House because he was the candidate independents wanted to lose the least. Still 12% of independents voted third party against both Trump and hillary.
Sure, there are a ton of other factors. you mentioned one. The laziness of Hillary Clinton to campaign like she actually wanted to win. From 1 Sep 2016 through 8 Nov 2016 she ceded the campaign trail to Trump. Trump made 116 campaign visits/appearances/rallies to Hillary's 71. That 71 appears larger than it actually was as it includes fund raisers in deep blue California and New York. The deciding states, Trump 5 visits to Wisconsin, Hillary none, zero. Michigan, Trump 6, Hillary 1. Pennsylvania was closer, 8 for Trump, 5 for Hillary. Even in electoral vote rich Florida, Hillary ceded it to Trump, 13 visits for Trump, 8 for Hillary.
Hillary had no fire in the belly to get out there and win. This showed in her ho hum campaign which sparked little to no energy among her supporters. Almost like she thought she'd be handed the presidency on a silver platter without have to work or campaign for it. Trump's supporters were full of energy and enthusiasm, they were willing to go to the four corners of the earth for him. Not so with Hillary's. Perhaps her ho humness rubbed off on those who supported her.
Throw in the jury rigging of the Democratic Primaries in Hillary's favor by the DNC and Democratic state party leaders which made Sanders supporters angry in which a quarter of them refused to support Hillary. Her inept campaign strategy along with bunch more reasons why she loss which Hillary had 100%, full control over. Hillary also avoided the media, going over 200 days without a press conference. Trump was all over the media. In the end, I'd say Hillary gave away the presidency due to her laziness, ineptness and totally like of drive to get out there and give it her all.
