US company makes Trump $3.3B border offer: Quick turnaround on 218 miles of steel fence, roads, and tech
4/2/2019 ~ By Anna Giaritelli
Arizona-based Fisher Industries President Tommy Fisher is meeting this week with top Department of Homeland Security officials, along with Democrats and Republicans in Congress, to sell his plan,....Tommy Fisher said it can build 218 miles of 18-foot steel bollard fence, along with paved concrete roads, lighting, and technology for $3.285 billion, a fraction of the $5.7 billion President Trump requested from Congress in December for a 234-mile project.... The fence's steel is all made in-house and would be weathered to avoid rusting and the need for replacement for 75 years, Fisher said. The top of the fence would have spin cameras mounted to it with systems that use facial recognition technology. The barrier would go up in four regions: 42 miles near Yuma, Ariz.; 69 miles near El Paso, Texas; 15 miles near El Centro, Calif.; and 91 miles near Tucson, Ariz.
Earlier this year, Trump signed an emergency order to obtain $6.6 billion in previously appropriated funding for the wall. He already has $1.375 billion of that amount from Congress, which can only be used to build fencing in the Rio Grande Valley.... The Army Corps of Engineers representative told the Examiner last month it was not ready to start looking at how to spend the $8 billion. The Corps is considering how to spend money Congress gave DHS last fiscal year and has not requested bids from the private sector because it's still in the procurement process.

Hmm...., Interesting a private company and less cost. Wow, A return to THE AMERICAN WAY! No politicians getting rake offs and it will be built faster and better with all American talent and sweat. Any comments?
Personally, I'd want to see a thirty foot tall double fence designed to be unclimbable. With a road between the fences.
If you observe the motley crew in the caravans, not even 5% are capable of climbing over the fence. That means minimum 95% of illegals are stopped without any bullets, handcuffs, or border guards. That's a good start. No practical barrier can or will stop 100%. Slowing and making it more difficult is the aim, while using our border patrol to arrest the few that get over the wall.
Actually, I find it interesting that Fisher Industries can do the job better and at less cost to the tax payer. The proposal covers everything including roads and technology. If he can do 218 miles and the wall works well then he can do the rest also! Fisher also claims, all parts and labor would be American!!!!
This guys done some serious homework!!

It's bull****.

It could be done faster and at less cost with stackable HESCO's if they were really serious about it.

But HESCO's are ugly to look at.

Bollard fencing does not stop people. This is clear to anyone who's ever seen a picture of it.

I hope they build it, but let's not pretend it's a promise fulfilled.

Whats turning peoples heads is he said he could do at least a mile a day easy and push 2 miles if ramped up. That's a lot of barrier quick.

Might be onto something there. Maybe he can pay for the bead curtain himself. Or maybe he can get a bank loan...

???

What are you babbling about?

Haven't you been keeping up with current events? Trump has over $6B to use on border security.

This is American ingenuity at its finest.

Not only did they redesign their building process, they worked with Caterpillar to create a new excavator to do the work more efficiently.

I think this company should get the job.

And to put the icing on the cake have illegals do the work.

HESCO.....over 300 meters deployed in under two minutes.

Now if I would just mow my lawn that fast......

This subject is getting more absurd with each passing day.

A little over $14,000,000 per mile of construction, when a 4-lane highway in rural America only costs 4 to 6 million dollars per mile of construction, seems a bit much to justify the expenditure of taxpayer monies in order to pander to immigrant hysteria, imho.
