Why George Papadopoulos' guilty plea is a much bigger problem for Trump than the Manafort indictment

I could not cut and paste the pic I did see earlier. Trump and this low level advisor sitting at a table together, so how low a level employee was this guy, by tomorrow Trump will be tweeting Popadopolous was the janitor. No offense to janitors, an honorable profession, unlike a Trump Campaign Advisor.

Here you go. I believe he's 4th from the left, in front.

Papadopolous should not have lied. From the plea document, it doesn't look as if he broke any laws -- except for lying about his connections with Russian associates, which is, of course, completely legal.

And bill Clinton got a blowjob which isn’t illegal either, but it was lying that got him in leagal troubles.

You don't seem to understand how a negotiated plea arrangement works. Prosecutor tells the suspect that they have evidence to charge them with a more serious offense, but "I can cut you a deal for a lesser charge if you cooperate as a witness in our case against Suspect A for (insert serious charge)."

What you're seeing is the charge AFTER the plea has been negotiated, not what it was negotiated down from. And since Papadopoulos was arrested in July, Team Mueller had from July - October to negotiate with Papadopoulos and his attorney, and for Papadopoulos to deliver the goods in exchange for the reduction in charges.

By announcing that Papadopoulos has already pled guilty to this lesser charge, Mueller is firing a shot across the bow of the U.S.S. Trumptanic and letting Team Trump know he has the goods on them.

You may not know what this means, but I guarantee that the defense attorneys involved with Team Trump know what it means.

But for anyone with a brain in their head, the lying stops when it is the FBI asking the questions. Chances are, if they are asking you a question, they already know the right answer.

Which is why when the FBI comes round you tell them to pound sand. You don't have to talk to them, and it is foolish to do so, they can and will use, what you say, in court, so say nothing.

This applies to all law enforcement officers. Key phrase: "Am I under arrest? If not, am I free to go?"

Edit, because I forgot: "No, I do not give you consent to search my (house, vehicle, person, etc.).

They are speculating that Papadopoulos was wearing a wire.

This is getting interesting.

Hilarious to watch the Trumpanzies continue to try to ignore the obvious.

Lying and suborning perjury I believe were the charges against Clinton. These charges regarding the "Hummer heard around the world" were not where Judge Starr's probe was probing. The GOP and Starr were hoping to find a connection that implecated the Clintons in wrondoing in the Whitewater situation.

Given the Starr lesson, Trump is likely to be impeached for something.

Some guidance for all the Trump fans:

President Trump! Ahoy! Incoming cannonball from the Mueller group!

What you tell them is, gee I really want to help you, but this sounds serious, don't you think I need a lawyer just to make sure we're on the same level?

No not so simple. One can not just dismiss the FBI. One can be questioned without being accused or a suspect and even withholding information can result in a charge of obstruction.

If you are able to exercise that level of judgment, then you, my friend, don't have what it takes to be a member of the Trump team.

I LOLed.

You don't have to say anything without legal counsel.

Never heard of this guy before today and it is curious as to why he felt he had to lie to the FBI about the timing of his contacts with these Russians. You would think people would know better than to lie to the FBI, but apparently not.

What makes this interesting is the very fact that it's not the big, heavy hitters from the Trump campaign or his Administration (past or present) who are letting the cat out of the bag, so to speak. It's the little guys. Isn't that always the way when the fed takes down a mafia crime boss? (j/k....:D, but oh, the irony!)

The FBI is just another law enforcement agency, albeit a federal one. You have the same rights in dealing with the FBI that you have when interacting with any other LE agency.

The result of not cooperating if not under arest or being accused can result in an obstruction charge.

That is true but there is still no excuse for withholding evidence or information or lying.

Had Monica Lewinsky requested counsel when Starr's group descended on her, the outcome of the scandal might have been different. Starr must've done some prime bluffing to scare the daylights out of that poor kid!

Alright. Feel free to convict yourself to your heart's content. Just bear in mind that you are not obligated to do so by law.

Well, that's kind of the thing: I'm pretty sure everybody in the Trump administration and campaign lied about their contacts with Russians. If even one person was honest from the start, I'm not aware of it.

How many russian meetings did Jared forget?

I can't wait to say about Mueller...

"He went to Jared's"

Nonsense. Papadopoulos pled guilty to lying to the FBI about when he learned about Hilary's emails, trying to obscure the fact that he learned about them from a Russian professor teaching here in the states, prior to the campaign. The admission was part of a plea deal to minimize fine, and his sentence to probation. It is doesn't indicate he flipped or that his admission is a threat to anyone else. Boo Hoo!
