Criminals won't obey gun laws

the thing is, we already have laws that theoretically "prevent" criminals from buying guns... the problem is the criminals don't cooperate, and just as with illegal drugs the black market can supply whatever is wanted.

Certainly very true, but I'd rather criminals have to buy guns on the black market than being able to walk into the gun store down the street from my house and purchase one. And I think we'd see criminals obtaining guns much easier if there weren't any laws preventing that, but I do see your point there.

A criminal won't legitimately purchase a gun because that leaves evidence of where they got it, unless they buy it legitimately and then decide later to break the law.

If he's smart, yes. But many aren't.

Criminals are actually quite "smart" when it comes to circumventing the law, since it's their specialty and whatnot.

For instance, members of the Aryan Brotherhood were able to manage a vast criminal enterprise from inside a maximum security prison. They communicated primarily by using a bilateral code invented by Sir Francis Bacon. You don't want to know how they transported the correspondence...

Do you honestly think you can keep these people from getting guns?

You must have seen that documentary a few days ago too, huh?

Gun control advocates always amuse me, do they ever realize that they make those they believe they are protecting more vulnerable? Do they actually expect the government street gangs (police) will protect people? I remember when my dad bought me my first rifle (age 15) and I ask him why we needed guns his response was that in America nobody is going to protect you, one must learn to protect himself. I found out that day that he had been keeping a a few pistols in the house and had since he served in Vietnam. I also was more full of hope and optimism back then too, unlike the proud cynical bastard that I am now.

We should make it illegal to brake the law, that'll show'em.

By legal means yes. You don't let them do it. Someone coming in with a violent criminal record should not be able to buy a gun. That's all I'm saying. Of course criminals will be able to obtain guns on the black market, but we shouldn't hand them to them in stores. That's my point.

And I think you hold the intelligence of criminals too high.
