Defund colleges, not cops | Spectator USA

I have an alternative. Now is the moment to defund the colleges. We should defund them because they are the root of the virulent anti-Americanism that feeds the riots, the looting and the learned helplessness that afflict the country. And they have been feeding the protest culture for generations. The chief lesson taught by our nation’s colleges and universities is soft disdain for our country and its forms of self-government. And the soft disdain ripens to outright antipathy for about a quarter of the graduates.

Defunding the police is a supposed cure for endemic racism and white supremacy. But America is not a racist country. To denounce America as racist is to accept a falsification of history and a wild distortion of the everyday reality experienced by Americans of every race. That some Americans of every race are racists doesn’t mean the country is racist. Racism is a feeble and fugitive feature of American life.

The colleges are using impressionable young minds to create an agenda that is against everything about America that is good.

So what college graduate in an authority position placed their knee on the neck of someone for over 8 minutes and killed them. Seriously do you not realize how dumb your comments are? Wait you are a trump supporter so you don't. Sad to say trump supporters highest average grade level completed appears to be the 4th grade.

Sure, let's defund colleges, so we can regress back to the stone ages. Considering we've already dropped 10 or so spots in worldwide leadership, perhaps this will accelerate our descent. What an inane idea.

The issue with people being out of control has nothing to do with universities or education. I believe it is an issue with upbringing. Most parents do not instill proper values and boundaries on their children anymore because they are struggling to put food on the table and work becomes their main focus. We need to address wages and stop forcing many single parents to have to work multiple jobs while also expecting them to guide their children through life. Even many dual parent households struggle because of the hours they have to work to afford living expenses.

My last job had me leaving at 6:30am and getting home at 7:30pm. Thankfully I do not have children or I would never have seen them.

Humanities courses are evil! They teach people to treat others as human beings! Oh the horror! Down with Humanities!

We are doing OK in the STEM fields, thanks to the Asians and Indians. But the article isn’t about that. It’s the teachers/professors using their leadership to run down the values learned at home and church and other adults. Young people are so gullible it would be funny if it wasn’t so serious.

Honestly, groups like the extremists in the Middle East make sure that young minds aren't corrupted with actual thought.

I'm not surprised the extremists all over the world think the same way.

We should only defund the university departments that are at fault for spreading psychological cancer, such as those areas of study commonly referred to as critical theory. This would mean defunding queer studies, gender studies, and racial studies, while continuing to fund STEM, the arts, and vocational training.

Asian countries aren't encumbered with the pseudosciences that American educational institutions are inundated with. That's partly why the NIH hires so many scientists and researchers from Asia now, while we're churning out social workers.

Are you a graduate of a 4-year college?

I took a class on Whiteness Studies that I thought would be interesting... All that happened was that I found myself being called a racist by two black women and the professor because I did not agree with them that all white people were/are racist simply because they are white. But maybe you never went to college?

Defunding colleges does not mean eradicating colleges... and our high school rankings have a lot more to do with socio-economics/attitude/gangs/etc than the quality of the material and the manner of delivery.

What did really people expect from all the " radical burn outs" from the 60's who finally decided they needed to get a job?

They flooded the education system.

Erm, what?
Are you trying to make yourself look like a homophobe and racist or is this posted for some kind of bet?

I think that we should do away with anything altogether that promotes critical thinking. It would save society from needing to bring its fascist-worshiping, Jew-hating and black-bashing specimen out into the light and, in the process, save both money and time.

Meet our resident fascist-worshiping, Jew-hating and black-bashing example.

Not a big fan of 'defunding'. There has to be a compelling reason to start cutting budgets of institutions and agencies and normally I am going to ask which responsibilities, obligations, and which roles are we moving elsewhere. ? What do we not want it to have to do, and who do we want to fill the gap it leaves? What is the defunding supposed to accomplish for us, and is in a temporary or long term change?

Off hand I have not seen a solid case to apply in general to police departments or colleges.

People who want to keep others under control prefer to end critical thinking. I don't recall any type of indoctrination in college, but rather the ability to think critically about information that's presented. There's a natural inclination to being open minded in learning institutions because they're exposing people to different ideas; to learn one must be open to new information. What the OP is referring to is really more in line with indoctrination since it assumes everyone must think the same way and arrive at the same conclusions.

Critical theory ≠ critical thinking.

Teacher should have been punished for obvious racism

Why do they only deserve respect while they are in the womb? Why are they on their own once they are born as babies, then as children, then as adolescents, and finally as adults? Why do I see so many posts from people like yourself politicizing the deaths of babies, children, adolescents, and adults?
