Brand New Sherman Tanks Will Be On Display 4JULY

I really enjoyed the display of the new Shermans.

I was in when the A1 was introduced, anti armor specialist.

They are an incredible piece of machinery...

I assume you mean the M1A1. They are incredible. I admit, I loved the M60s (especially the A3). They were reliable, reliable, reliable. They carried more ammunition, and could actually outshoot an M1 in static fire. On the move, though, nothing beats an M1. When they went to 120mm smoothbore, however, the whole armor world changed. Faster, longer range, more punch, and accuracy. In Desert Storm (I was not there) the fight was decidedly lopsided. At night, with Tank Thermal Sight (TTS), U.S. tanks could see and destroy Iraqi equipment before they came in range of counterfires. The downside is maintenance. M1s are temperamental and all the major maintenance is contracted out.

But I digress...
