Older article and it's from Slate so use caution! ;)

How To Start a Political Party
If Joe Lieberman can do it, I can do it.

How do I start my own political party?

The rules differ depending on where you live, but in general all you have to do to start a political party is gather enough signatures. In the Explainer’s home state of New York, you need to get 15,000 voters spread out across the state to sign a petition to have one or more candidates added to the ballot. (According to the distribution requirements, more than 100 people have to sign in each of at least 15 congressional districts.) Once you’ve got your signatures, you just have to number the pages, have a witness sign the bottom of each one, and then bind the whole package “by any means which will hold the pages together in numerical order.” Send the thing to the State Board of Elections, and voilà!

Identity politics precludes that because we as a nation are a two party government, avoiding the fractional government of some parliamentary systems.

The federal campaign finance law defines "political party" as a committee or organization whose nominated or selected candidates for federal office appear on the ballot as the party’s candidates. However, ballot access is governed by state law.

The laws in each state determine when a political organization qualifies as a “political party” entitled to have its candidates’ names appear as party-designated candidates on the general election ballot. While the laws differ from state to state, they generally all require a nonmajor party to demonstrate sufficient voter support—such as by filing a petition for party recognition signed by a representative number of voters—in order to qualify for ballot access in the general election. Moreover, the party must receive a sufficient number of votes in the election in order to sustain its qualified status.

In nearly all states, a party can achieve limited recognition as a political party for a specific general election by being named as the organization represented by the candidate in his or her nominating petition. Contact the Secretary of State’s office (or equivalent office) in each state for specific information on achieving political party status under state law.

Google this: "Ballot access requirements for political parties in [insert state name]"

You'll need to perform your own analysis to find out which state is easiest for you to start a new party, but the information Ballotpedia provides is a facilely available for performing the initial stage of that analysis.

I would like to see the democrat party divided into two separate parties.

Marke, if any major party splits over a substantial national political issue, it would within just one election cycle lead to all the other parties similarly spliting to the extents that they're also divided upon that same issue.

Respectfully, Supposn

Ross Perot did more to help Bill Clinton get elected, twice, than did ten thousands of other supporters. In like manner, Hillary's mistreatment of Bernie Sanders did more to cost her the election than any number of Russians who supposedly bought ads favoring Trump on Facebook.

States with majority Democrat voters have already demonstrated a desire to support a new party - The New Democrat Socialist Party.
