Numbers of new unemployment claims at 1969 levels with twice the workforce. Yeah, Trump is ruining the economy. :roll

The U.S. Labor Department reports that for the third week in a row, unemployment claims have hit low levels not seen since September of 1969 and that the less volatile four-week moving average has reached lows last achieved in November of 1969. What makes this milestone stunning is that the unemployment claims number is not adjusted for how many people are in the labor force, and today there are almost twice the number of people in the workforce as in 1969

I can hardly wait to see the hilarious, and ridiculous excuses our local TDS support group comes up with to say "nuh-uh". I hope they're more creative than usual.

Don't expect to hear much about this on the MSM or in the press.

They are still running with the Russia! Russia! Russia! Collusion! Collusion! Collusion! story now in year 3 because apparently Mueller, his 18 Democrat lawyers, all 40 FBI agents and the others on his team all are white supremacist racist Trumpizoids who all deliberately lied in the Mueller report on behalf of President Trump.

How is wage growth?

I don't doubt they're valid. Economy is good right now.

I do, however, laugh my ass off that when there was positive news like this during the Obama administration, the same people crowing now were saying the numbers were fake. You don't think there could be some kind of partisan blinders going on do you?

Of course not, only Democrats are partisan. :lamo

How is wage growth?

Lagging behind federal spending growth.

The list of alarming statistics in CBO’s report is too long to recount them all, but consider these: Annual spending growing from $4 trillion to $7 trillion over the coming decade, and debt growing from $21 trillion to $31 trillion. Trillion-dollar deficits are just around the corner and they will be here to stay.

Numbers this large are unrelatable for most people, but here’s a good way to illustrate the problem: Last year, for every household in America, the federal government collected $26,000 in taxes but spent $32,000, and added $6,000 to the credit card that already had a $168,000 balance.

So...people are working more and getting paid more and still...Congress won't do their jobs.

Yeah...that sounds about right, doesn't it?

Far too many in congress see their job as doing that which is required to win re-election. Government spending is popular while taxation to cover that spending is not - guess which gets priority?

TDSers: Obama did it.

LOL!!
Yeah, I've developed a theory of why if Obama was such a economic wizard and Trump a complete nincompoop why things are some much better and moving in positive directions. All the good things we're seeing occurred on Obama's watch but are only manifesting themselves two years after Trump took out because of "delayed inheritance"

still? how long have you been at that rate?

this is what i have been saying on here for years....and please dont take it the wrong way

can you learn additional skills to increase your value? is that all that particular job pays in your area? or is your boss just stingy?

how can YOU do something to increase your value to the company so you are worth more?

i have people working for me that make your wage....and some that are happy/content with where they are, and what they are doing...which is fine

i have others that want more, and a desire to learn more, and want to earn more....which sounds like your case

i am taking the latter and teaching them additional skills....i am sending one to a tech school on a contract, so that when she finishes she is my employee for the next 6 years....but i am paying for her 10k tuition, along with letting her work part time, and go to school part time....win/win for both of us

Employers have a responsibility to try and understand their employees....and try to give them opportunities

Employees have the responsibility of letting their employer know they want MORE, and are willing to learn and do more to earn more

Where are you getting your "twice the population" number from?

According to the census there were 203 million Americans in July of 1969. In December of 2018 there were 329 million Americans. Not sure what math you are applying, but 329 is not double 203.

Okay, that right there is scary and should give every American with a conscience pause.

Yep, especially since it would take a federal income taxation rate of over 50% to get $32K from the median household income of (just under) $60K. As it stands now, 100% of federal non-defense, discretionary spending is added to the national debt year after year with no realistic plan to change that "budget" process.

I thought Trump and the Republicans promised to do something about the out of control spending by the Democrats? By that did they mean "double down" on it?

I look at my kids and shake my head knowing what they will be facing when they are my age.

I'm a cook, so our wage prospects are usually pretty dim outside of big cities and chef positions. But, it's whatever. I might suck it up and go work for a factory at some point.

I don't recall Trump saying anything about cutting federal spending. Trump promised more defense and border security funding and to reduce federal income taxation. While Trump talked of reducing federal government regulation (red tape?) he never, to my knowledge, said that he would cut total (or per capita) federal spending.

If it is deemed necessary to run annual federal deficits of $1T during "these best of" economic times then imagine what the federal deficit will be when things are not so rosy economically. IMHO, we will face Austerity Day long before the next generation matures (20 years?).

Trump promised to eliminate the debt and balance the federal budget "fairly quickly".

SIAP. There are plenty of second jobs you could work for.

I do music on the side. Got a gig for $75 on Saturday night.

Yep, probably just as "fairly quickly" as he ends (wins?) the war on terror, the war on poverty and the war on drugs. I just love it when politicians (serving 2, 4 or 6 year terms) come up with "10 year plans" that seem to start just after their next term in office ends.
