Partisan Hate Is Becoming a National Crisis

As Jeremy Irons said in Reversal of Fortune: "It's a start."

It's also the punchline to the old joke "What do you call 500 lawyers at the bottom of the sea?"

Communications, Marketing and Political Science. These are the degree tracks where people study what makes us tick. Cognitively and emotionally. I don't have to convince you with facts. All I have to do is make you angry or happy about a subject and reason will follow emotion. They know why we believe one thing and don't another. There is a large list of these techniques. Some so potent they will work on those who use these tools in their messaging.

They have been at this research for a century now. Every modern tyranny has used these tools to establish and maintain their tyrannies.

Every political campaign, every speech is written using these tools. Every ad you see or hear. So it's no surprise you hear nothing from politicians or the media on the subject.

But Public Relations alone is a ten billion dollar a year industry in the US. Not counting those in direct employ.

This is the 800 pound gorilla sitting studiously ignored at the heart of this nation's current divide.

This is the subject that brought me here to DP in the first place. Two men of similar age and station screaming at each other across a table emblazoned with home made bright red signage. Asking myself how that came to pass led me to the persuasion sciences and then here to attempt to point them out.

I have posted at length here, about fake posters, multiple accounts tended by the same person, professionals doing this, the use of computers. All of the Russian troll tactics and then some. For years here.

And a significant population of the American people are allowing themselves to be pawns in this bipartisan war by letting their bias drive them. Politicians need to be held accountable across the board.

More of this "why can't we aallll just get along nonsense".

I'll repeat it again. There is no longer two parties who want basically the same thing but disagree on how to get there. One side thinks it's okay to take kids from their parents and put the in cages, ban Muslims from entering the country, and that our president worked with Russians to help steal the election.

I'm not interested in finding common ground with them, I'm interested in crushing them. Did Abraham Lincoln try to make peace with the confederacy?

That post pretty much sums it up.

There is no compromise with those who want concentration camps, street sweeps where an occasional American Citizen getting rounded up is acceptable collateral damage, cut deals with sex traffickers who can afford to pay the graft they seek, drive up the deficit while cutting services to those who need it most, under-fund schools while handing billions to whacked out Christian groups, alienate our allies and suck up to our enemies.

Who in their right mind would want to find common ground with scumbags like that?
