Hanoi/Trump/Kim

My cynical side thinks this “summit” is a ploy to revive talk of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Japan PM refuses to deny nominating Trump for Nobel prize | World news | The Guardian

I would imagine Trump will again shower Kim with praise, and again tell the world how great Kim is, a man that has tortured to death Americans and who runs the most brutal and repressive regime in the history of civilization, and again, despite Trump showering such a man with praise, the supposedly patriotic Republicans will say nothing.

Well, speaking factually Trump would deserve it more than Obama. How many wars did Obama gets us into? How many has Trump?

In the end, neither one of them actually deserve it.

Obama? Apologies to Tina Turner; “What’s Obama got to do with it?”

It's nothing more than a PR show, for two leaders in domestic trouble with nothing to show ...

Obama? Apologies to Tina Turner; “What’s Obama got to do with it?”

Obama was mentioned in the article you posted, or did you not bother reading it?

If we're measuring whether someone should get the Nobel Peace Prize or not then its quite valid to bring up people that have received it in the past to compare.

You obviously do not think that Trump should get it. Why? When compared to Obama, Trump has done less towards getting us into wars than Obama. And iirc Obama even campaigned on staying in Iraq and Afghanistan before he was elected. Yet he still got the Prize.

I get that you think that Trump doesn't deserve it. Neither do I. But comparatively speaking, Trump has Obama beat as far as this Prize goes.

Oh, I read the piece. I’ve made that mistake before. There are a few other things mentioned in the article that have nothing to do with the OP. You here just to stir the pot, or do you have something to add?

As of this writing OB is in four of seven posts above which leaves the mention of him in the Nobel article anemic by comparison and contrast.

The Right has an Obama Nobel stuck in its craw from 2009 which is ten years ago.

My next wonder is whether Kim will talk Trump into nominating him.

You have any sources noting that Obama asked someone to nominate him?

And yet you asked me what Obama has to do with it? :lamo You posted the article. Therefore what's in the article has everything to do with the OP. That you don't like the way the thread is headed is no ones fault but your own.

Goal post move noted.

Yes yes, I know what's in the article. More "unidentified sources". What's the old saying about rumors? In any case, it's irrelevant to whether Trump deserves it when compared to Obama, which is all I was speaking towards.

I cannot control where a thread is heading from the time I select “Reply.” The fact that you throw sand in the thread is not surprising either. The OP is not questioning whether Trump deserves an award or not. The fact that you feel the need to defend/deflect any perceived slights of Donald Trump is also in keeping with past interactions.

Nah, just noting the hypocrisy is all.

And yet you complained about "There are a few other things mentioned in the article that have nothing to do with the OP". Sure looks to me like you were trying to steer the thread in a direction that only supports what you wanted to talk about. You are right though...you can't control where the thread is heading as a result of what you posted.

And that you think that this is a defense of Trump is just sad. I've already stated quite plainly that he does not deserve the Prize. IE: which is a criticism of him. Not a defense. Of course my overall point is in noting the hypocrisy of supporting Obama having received it while denouncing anything that even suggests that Trump should get it. And no, that is not me saying that you supported Obama getting it. You weren't even around here then and as such wouldn't know your stance on it 100%. But I would bet that you did support it based on your posting history. Feel free to correct me. ;)

The “hypocrisy” is assumed on your part.

What I pointed out in post # 1, was my opinion that the upcoming “summit” is more of a revival of NPP talk, than about anything substantive. The article I cited, was only to provide background for my opinion. I had/have no opinion on previous NPP awardees.
Humanitarian awards are cheapened, imo, if they are lobbied for.

It is entirely in keeping with Trump’s past MO’s as far as getting recognition for his wealth or social status.

Actually, no, its not. The majority of democrats said that he deserved the Prize. I see those same people hollering about even the suggestion that Trump has been nominated to it. Americans' Views on Obama and the Nobel Peace Prize

You posting history is clearly liberal at best, progressive at most. Am I wrong in that? What conservative positions do you hold?

Wow! I recommend you read post #1 again; you are way out in the weeds! Hope you left yourself a bread crumb trail, so you can find your way back. :2wave:

The Nobel Peace prize really doesn’t deserve to be grouped in with the other Nobel prizes as it doesn’t share the same high standards. I wish they would drop “Nobel” from its name.

Nah, just noting the hypocrisy is all.

C'mon man we can hear you guyz choking between the lines of your posts about OB and the Nobel.

Stuck in yer craw it is, the Nobel to OB.

OB and Hillary diehards forever. You got your Potus in Trump but OB and Hillary live rent free in your boarding house minds. It's free room and board up there for 'em. It makes me want to bring up Saint Ronnie who never got nuthin but still is on the dashboard of you guys cars.

His posts are a trail of crumbs so he'll get back only halfway.

Like it or not its legitimate to discuss prior Presidents and other politicians. Its also legitimate to compare them with other Presidents (past and current) and politicians (again, past and current). Its the nature of political discussions. But don't worry, I get that you can't stand anything that is not completely and utterly critical and hateful said of Trump and that he has to be the only subject talked about in your mind so no worries. I get it, I really do.

Already read it. Including the article. Your intent for the direction that you wanted the thread to go towards is irrelevant.

I can't even begin to tell you how infuriated I am that he got the prize simply on the hope that he would make good on it, only to continue policies that I despised in the previous administration. There was a time when I could look at the fact that we're involved in conflicts without questioning the validity of our involvement in those conflicts, but I'm done with all that. It shouldn't be normalized. It shouldn't be accepted. There is absolutely no reason to spend our resources and put our youth into the line of fire for any other reason than to defend ourselves from a real threat.

I would say that Barack Obama and Donald Trump, or any of the modern presidents, save for Carter, would do nothing/have done nothing but discredit the significance of the prize.
