Officially A Democrat

I just officially registered to be a Democrat. Never thought this would happen, but I can no longer stomach the GOPs extreme positions on well just about everything.

Welcome to the dark side. Glad you are here.

I think you made an informed decision. Its best to be either a Democrat or an Independent. Todays GOP is not recognizable.

Good for you! The nevertrumper thing I can understand but outside the dem party of being against trump and wanting to vote primaries, what platform of the Dems do you support? The only reason I ask is I did the same thing in 2017 with the number one priority of being against trump but I am against the majority of Dems on the 2A and firearm issues. The rest of the platforms I mostly agree with, was curious what parts you might agree with or disagree with on the Dems?

I tend to not vote on hot button issues like Guns or Abortion, and I largely stay out of the immigration debate except I believe that Trump is NOT handling the border wall dispute well. He's about to cave like a coward anyways, but there are other elements with how this government has dealt with migrants that bothers me to my core. There's also the metoo movement and how certain conservatives always seem to stick up for the men. When I've been watching true crime shows and Law and Order SVU for over twenty years. I see my female friends get harassed constantly everyday, and it's even worse online. Plus there's the anti-media sentiment in the GOP while they drum up bogus stories about Hillary almost daily. So those three things have made me realize that the GOP is no longer the party for me because they do not seem bothered by these things. Plus I believe more than a few have been infiltrated by Russians.

So what of Conservatives? Do they not deserve to have a voice?

Lol, Conservatives have most of the levers of government. I'm not worried about their voices since there are doctors around who can treat that.

But in order to fix the destruction Liberals have caused, we need ALL the levers of government.

my state forces me to register as a member of a Fisher Price My First Political Party in order to have a say in the primaries, which i have to vote in to pick the best anti-Trumpist candidate. i'm not a fan of the policy.

So I've been a registered voter ever since my 18th birthday. I was raised in a Republican household. My first election was 2008. I didn't like Obama. I then, didn't like McCain he ran a campaign message I thought was way too conservative. So I wrote in Romney. Was more than happy to vote for Romney in 2012. Voted for Evan McMullin in 2016. I like Bush a lot for what he did for the country after 9/11 minus the wars. The creation of Homeland Security and the surveillance were good additions to the government. Though hardly conservative operations (even though every President has decided to continue w/them...) ;)

I think w/o the noise of Fox News and the partisans, Kasich is where a lot of the GOP would be right now, but they've been listening to 30 years of garbage to care. On the flip side I think AOC IS the future of the Democrats. Her style and messaging are spot on and completely inline with my generation's thinking on most things and her twitter game is A+. Imagine if Obama battled the right wing online like she does? He would have nipped the birther stuff in the butt. So, in many ways the old guard pretending that politics has to be dignified and that there are adults in the room are ending. Warped by cable news, social media, and NDAs.

I do however, like people who have strong opinions and can articulate them in ways that either grab the spotlight or gets something moving in Congress. It's probably the only thing I'll say Trump is an expert on. Yet I don't like blind loyalty or partisans who only focus on one partisan topic. Examples of people I have some respect for include...

On the Republican side: Mitt Romney, Ted Cruz, Rick Santorum
On the Democrats side: Beto O'Rourke, Ilhan Omar, Julian Castro, Kamala Harris, Don Lemon
Relatively independent: Chris Cuomo, Bill Maher

Besides for those listed I tend to not like people who have worked on or for campaigns where it's clear who they are defending and it's pretty pointless to have them on TV just to try to get a soundbite out of them. Oh and the anti-media sentiment in the GOP is something I really cannot stomach anymore. IDK if this makes much sense, but I hope it answers some of your questions.

I really appreciate the answer. I've found similar stories with some of my friends that have shifted parties over the past few years. People like Biden and O'Rourke seem to be easy bridges for those that identify more as pre-Trump, pre-Tea Party Republicans. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that even if there are major policy differences between more conservative Democrats and the rising progressive movement at least some standard of reality can be agreed upon. I feel like the Trump party is unable to hold itself to any standard at all.

So what of Conservatives? Do they not deserve to have a voice?

Maybe you shouldn’t

IOW, you are a traitor to the country. the Democrat party is the epitome of pure Communist evil and needs to be destroyed. You sir have sided with the enemy.

Welcome to the jump ship crew.....but Independent was a viable option as well. My only issue now is primaries.

Oh! didn't see this coming!

Stay there, and never ****ing leave. The only thing worse than a democrat is a wolf in sheep's clothing. Now that you revealed yourself, you went up a level in my book. You're just a normal dem now, not a wolf.

now change your username. You don't speak for conservatives, and you never did.

Why did you ever claim to be a Republican?

You can register as an Independent...

Congratulations!

And all it took was another fake news story concocted by the NeverTrump media to blow up in their faces to get you to switch.

You say it like Fox News has never been caught pushing fake news, or that Trump isn't caught lying constantly. Until right wingers can see both sides of the facts, your fake news meme is a just right wing propaganda

Finally out of the closet eh? At least after years of RINO posts you are finally showing some integrity. I too quit the GOP, but I will NEVER register with communists, socialists, democrats, or any other left of center party. If and until the Republican party shows some spine and competence in challenging the liberal zeitgeist there isn't any point in participating in voting. I am a refusenik in participation because no party has earned my vote (including the libertarians).

Sadly, you think Democrats have earned yours. It's a shame that you believe that you have to join the enemy rather than have the balls to simply be independent.

It's one thing to be chart your own course, its another to become a traitor.

In any case, what about the Republican Party is extreme other than their abortion, and anti-homosexual stances?

I think the way to answer this question is to compare our two main political parties to parties in other western nations. To make a long story short, the Democrat party is equivalent to the conservative parties in England, Canada, Germany, Japan, France, etc. The Republican party's policies would be considered reactionary in most other western nations.

Dude...nothing in his posts merits this kind of treatment.

How do you like your covfefe though? That's the important question here.

Actually much in his posts merit worse; for not less than two years (perhaps many more) this fellow has posed as a Republican without defending any Republican sponsored policy or initiative by any wing of the party … not one. However, for two years he has made his only forum purpose to make sweeping and hostile rants against his party. No matter what any Democrat said or did or proposed, or how petty and trivial or wrong-headed his complaints were they all carried one singular theme: Republicans are all evil.

So ya, now that the faux Republican has done his dirty work, he has, much like an American spying for the KGB, boarded his escape plane to the motherland.
