In an effort to increase GOP voter enthusiasm and sway voter attention away from...well, everything else except illegal immigration...Pres. Trump puts his stamp of approval on a political ad featuring Luis Bracamontes, a cop-killing illegal alien from Mexico. In the ad featured on Pres. Trump's official Twitter account, Bracamontes is portrayed in a similar fashion as the "Willie Horton" ads were during the 1988 presidential campaign that helped defeat then Democratic nominee Michael Dukakis. Team Trump has basically dusted off an old race-triggering playbook to stir the angst of Republican voters who may still be sitting on the fence during the mid-terms. Problem with the ad, however, is although Luis Bracamontes originally entered the U.S. illegally during Pres. Clinton's presidency and subsequently re-entered during his second term, Bracamontes re-entered the country for a third time under GW Bush's presidency and subsequently went on his killing spree.

So, while it may be true that Bracamontes initially entered the U.S. under a Democratic president, he somehow managed to re-enter the country and go on to conduct his killing spree under a Republican president after having been deported twice (one-each by Clinton and GWBush).

Sidenote: It should be noted that Bracamontes remained in the U.S. for his longest period (greater than 2 years) from 2002 thru 2014 when he committed the murders during GWBush's tenure. So, if anything, the finger pointing as to who is to blame for this POS remaining in the country really needs to be pointed to the right on this one, not the left. In any case, this is low-bar politics covered in sheer desperation.

I agree the Trump ad is in poor taste, but what does the Willie Horton ad have to do with race?

What's funny about Trump's ad is that it was Sheriff Joe Arpaio who released Luis Bracamontes from jail in Arizona, where he was being held. LMAO.

Finally, Luis Bracamontes, entered the U.S. while Bill Clinton was president and...was deported. He then re-entered during the George W. Bush years, and committed the murders discussed in the ad.

Google is your friend...search "Willie Horton", then watch the old ad GWBush's campaign put out about him, then watch the Bracamontes' ad and then you'll know what race had to do with it.

Edit: The Willie Horton ad wasn't from GWBush's campaign. It was from GHWBush's campaign.

I seen both, like I said I agree on Trump's but to say the willie Horton ad had anything to do with race seems like a pretty big stretch.

Don Lemon can throw up a graphic of 2 dozen or so white men and call them our worst terrorist threat, but ONE ad of an illegal alien laughing his ass off over killing Americans is offensive.
You can't make this stuff up any longer.

There needs to be no finger pointing: Both sides have failed to secure our borders for years. For that we get folks like Bracamontes creating havoc.

The problem with that ad is that it is trying to portray all illegal immigrants as violent killers, it is a gross generalization imo. I agree with you that Don Lemon's rhetoric is disturbing as well.

Certainly the ad is done for effect. We do have problems with illegals that range from non-violent crimes to MS-13 level criminals.
We'll see how well the ad plays.

It's real simple. Dukakis, a Democrat, was leading in the polls in the late stages of the 1988 presidential primaries until GHWBush's campaign started playing the Willie Horton ad. Suddenly, Dukakis' poll numbers plummeted. Why? Because the Bush campaign found the most violent criminal under the most questionable circumstances and pushed a last-minute ad out to the public in order to change the hearts and minds of the American electorate. And who was that violent criminal? Willie Horton who happened to be Black. And as we both know if you can portray a minority - a Black man in that case - as a thuggish, violent killer during a campaign no less, you often do change the hearts and minds of the majority (white) voters.

So, now here we have a campaign season where our nation's 45th president has talked up violent Mexicans since he first hit the campaign trail in 2015 using an ad under the same racial tensions as BHWBush did. Notice in both ads the politician never uses any other samples to make their case. You don't see a White man advertised who might have committed similar crimes under similar circumstances. You only see the minority.

Now, honestly...did I have to outline all of this for you or are you just purposely brushing it off?

To this, I agree. I'm just pointing out the fact that in a desperate attempt to win over his supporters (or bring more out of their dull-drums), Pres. Trump has pulled out the racial stops!

I haven't see the Don Lemon's segment, but I agree what Bracamontes did is no laughing matter. Anyone regardless of race OR citizenship status should be offended by what he did. However, Don Lemon's was right to make a fair comparison between white men and non-white men who have committed similar acts of brutality. For any political ad not to illustrate such is simply injecting racism into the equation regardless of how factual the criminal situation might have been. Just as the GHWBush campaign knew what they were doing, I'm sure so does the Trump campaign. It's race baiting through and through.

It is not racist to point out that illegal aliens have killed Americans and that but for the fact that these illegals have flouted our laws, Americans like Kate Steinle and Molly Tibbets would be young women, alive and with a wonderful future in front of them.
btw, Lemon would be fair to point out that for black men, the 5th leading cause of death is murder. Black homicide is genocidal, but Lemons, a black man (who apparently is an arbiter of what blacks are black enough) would rather focus on toxic white males whose number is exponentially lower.

Sorry, I don't see it that way.

100% agree with the bolded, What is wrong with that? Did Dukakis not support giving criminals weekend passes? Did Willie Horton not take that opportunity once out of prison to murder someone and repeatedly rape his girlfriend? The ad wasn't portraying black people as a group, it merely pointed to a violent criminal who because of a policy Dukakis supported was let out of prison and proceeded to rape and murder people, most people would be against letting out violent criminals loose for the weekend, hence the drop in polling. The fast that he is black is largely irrelevant.

As I said, I agree with you on Trump's ad as it deliberately tried to generalize all illegal immigrants. The Willie Horton ad was entirely legitimate (assuming those were true statements), the people upset with that ad are merely pissed because it worked and there was no defense against it as most people would think that is an idiotic policy.

Certainly the ad is done for effect. We do have problems with illegals that range from non-violent crimes to MS-13 level criminals.

I agree, it would have been better for him to show several murderers, and then say something like due to people like this we need to ensure our borders are closed to make sure we know who is coming into the country. Showing the criminal then random illegal immigrants is wrong because you are suggesting they are like him.

The ad will likely play out well as fearmongering is simply how politicians drive people to the polls.

Everyone's a racist, execpt for the Leftists. It's all they have to argue with.

That is a rather weird tangent to go off on.

Trump never defends GWBs lack of backbone in many areas, this being one. Fact is that if Swedes, Finnish Laplanders, Norse radical fishermen just plain outta fish that were overwhelming our borders bringing drugs, pushing narcotics, heartlessly human traficking in such massive numbers... probably more even than the 22 million extrapolated upon... if they were raping, gang killing in the massive numbers from just one state like they are in the state of Texas alone... Trump would stomp those slugs to flat.

Good platitude: If it needs done, do it.

Everyone's a racist, execpt for the Leftists. It's all they have to argue with.

You forgot: bigot, sexist, nazi, homophobe, xenophobe, and various other ad hominem attacks. At some point they will realize that no one cares anymore about those tactics.
